Is this appropriate for testing new hardwood floors and the subfloor prior to installation?

New hardwood floor boards and your existing subfloor need to have between 6% and 12% moisture and both readings shouldn't vary by more than 4% of each other. This inexpensive meter appears to be just what I need for the job, but can anyone confirm? My flooring guide talks about "species specific" meter readings and changing settings depending on the species of wood. Does this meter have different settings for different materials? The new floor is 3/4 solid Acacia. I'd test these boards from the bottom and sides to conceal the pin holes... how deep does the pin have to go into the wood?

Buying a cord of wood only to have it delivered and realize it works better putting out a fire then sustaining one sucks. Most species should be under 20% MC in the center of a log.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Moisture meter review Item worked as I expected. I purchased it to measure the moisture in my drywall in the basement from recent flooding. It isn't high end but I got the results I was looking for. August 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Purchased this for my husband as a Christmas present and he loves it! He purchased a large pile of wood and found it was still very wet. This moisture meter will help him decide if the wood is still too wet or not. January 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good for the price. Easy to use, but read about one to two percent higher then a commercial meter. November 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works fine I used this meter to indicate moisture (or lack thereof) on the surface of wood and concrete blocks. I also inserted the prongs into carpet to find moisture. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use Moisture meter Easy to use and easy to read. It matched the readings taken by the Craftsman I worked with to determine how to deal with wooden floors that got wet. July 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth its weight in gold!! We had our house painted and after 9 months some of the paint started bubbling. We called the painter and when he saw the condition of the paint he told us that it was because the wood siding must be wet, and therby making his paint bubble. We quickly ordered the moisture meter and sure enough, the only siding pieces that showed a moisture content were the ones that had the peeling paint. We called him out again and demonstrated how this little beauty worked. Well, he is currently fixing the paint problem that was caused by bad prep work rather than moisture in our siding. Thank you for making a product like this available at such an affordable price!! June 22, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Seems to operate as it should. So far the device is working as advertised. I've only used it once, so I'll know more as time passes. June 16, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase Only complaint about this product was that it was hard to see the moisture rating on the screen at arms length. June 9, 2015
