Customer Questions & Answers

What is meant by 1% accuracy? Does this mean that 99% of the time it is wrong?

Asked by: Cindy
It means within a 1% accuracy, if it registers 55%, it would actually be 56%.

Does this detect mold?

Asked by: Wyllow
No, just measures the current between the two prongs. If humid, more current.

Is this appropriate for testing new hardwood floors and the subfloor prior to installation?

New hardwood floor boards and your existing subfloor need to have between 6% and 12% moisture and both readings shouldn't vary by more than 4% of each other. This inexpensive meter appears to be just what I need for the job, but can anyone confirm? My flooring guide talks about "species specific" meter readings and changing settings depending on the species of wood. Does this meter have different settings for different materials? The new floor is 3/4 solid Acacia. I'd test these boards from the bottom and sides to conceal the pin holes... how deep does the pin have to go into the wood?
Asked by: Joe
insert pins at max depth of 1/4"

That means there are two sharp prongs that you have to dig into your sheetrock or wood flooring to get a reading. There is a reason you dont see the prongs in this picture. It would never sell. They re hidden by the cap on top. Forget about buying any 'pin type' humidity detector.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some questions about calibration Before using, the unit required calibration. It did not perform as indicated on the instructions but no correcting actions were indicated. I am not sure that the readings I took were accurate because the unit failed its calibration test, or I was unable to follow the instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moisture meter for $19.99 I've had a continuing roof leak since July 2014 (now Dec 10 2014) that caused ceiling damage. It supposedly had been fixed (6 times) and I was reluctant to get the ceiling fixed and painted. I had DRI Rite come to my house and do thermal imaging and use their water meter to see if it was still wet/moist. it was not which was what my new meter said and the exact same percentage. So I am pleased that for $20 it is very accurate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy I got this tool after the hurricane for use in repair jobs. It works very well and is easy to read and enabled me to see where the areas of minor dampness were to save on demo costs. In the description of the product online this item is the only one that is listed that is self-calibrating. It arrived within two days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good purchase Only complaint about this product was that it was hard to see the moisture rating on the screen at arms length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to use Our crawlspace was flooded for about a month and we needed to be certain it was completely dry before installing a new moisture barrier, insulation and subfloors. Mold growth is a major concern in the great Northwest so dry is key to home health. The hand held device was super easy to use, the light up reading features made it so easy to read under the house and let us know it was not dry enough {when we thought it was} so we didnt waste time and materials, installing before we should have. AND..it came 'batteries included" MIRACLE!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price. Easy to use, but read about one to two percent higher then a commercial meter.
