How have they held up over time? Has anyone had them outside more than a few years? Any rot or decay?

Asked by: rookie
I've had to replace some pieces after 3 or 4 years due to rotting, but not all.

Its hard to say from specifications, is this cedar treated or not?

Asked by: IrinaM
Cedar does not need treated, it will keep some pest at bay, does not rot very easy will rot at some point but will out last most other woods even wet mine has been outside for 5 years termites want touch it.

Could these be stacked?

I want an 8' by 8' that is 21" High -- is this possible using four of these?
Asked by: PoetFlower
Possible but it would really leak soil thru the between the boards two high might be too much soil weight to keep the bottom boards from pushing out they are only 1/2" thick. If the bottom bed pushes out and the top does not it will really leak soil.

Bought a few of these years ago still have one left it is almost done it lasted about 5 years but what i do not like about them is the dirt washes out between the boards so put something like tarpaper or something to contain the soil, I just replaced them as I replanted, one 8'er left half is fine the other side has one bad board not too bad after 5 years. But not containing the soil could of been prevented if I had known. I now just use 2"x10"x8' so there is just one board. They were easy to use and did not look bad. If they were to use one board and have it thicker and only put the router lines on 2 sides so it looks better I might concider trying again. I still like using cedar the best.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Up to What I Expected This may be cedar, but it's the cheapest cedar I've ever seen. Parts of the boards were already splitting before I even slid them into their slots. The boards themselves look too pale and they look untreated, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. The screws necessary to put on the final decorative blocks were missing. I needed this box done, so I just put it together without the decorative blocks, and I'm using it without the finished look. I guess you get what you pay for. Disappointed.

First: Yes the wood is rough and unfinished but what I expected for the price. I wiped them down with oil formulated for raised beds then assembled. Very easy (even for a not-young grandma). They are deep enough for root vegetables without stacking. We also lined the bottoms with 1/4" hardware cloth to keep out voles. Of course the real test will be to see how long they last, but the ones they're replacing (composite material) only lasted a couple of years.

They are nice and will serve the purpose, but the wood isn't the best. One of the boards warped within just a couple of weeks. I would recommend putting a stain on them. On the plus side, they are very easy to assemble and the 10.5" depth is good for the vegetables. If you don't need anything fancy, these are workable.

It was very easy to put together and my plants have grown so much, I'll have fresh veggies very soon. This is a good purchase just slide the parts together and that's it and you can also connect beds together if you want to.

Assembly of units was easy but side boards warped in various directions after setting in the sun for a couple weeks. Corner dovetailed boards cracked and the sides failed while trying to fill box with soil. Do not recommend this item. Very flimsy.
