Customer Questions & Answers

How have they held up over time? Has anyone had them outside more than a few years? Any rot or decay?

Asked by: rookie
Lasted 2 years in Colorado. I purchased 3 and one has to be replaced this year and the other two next year. May have lasts longer if we had sealed the wood. Otherwise they work great.

Its hard to say from specifications, is this cedar treated or not?

Asked by: IrinaM
Cedar wood is NOT treated, therefor, chemicals will NOT leach into soil. Cedar wood is naturally preserved, however, probably NOT as long as chemically treated wood; but good enough for me.

How many bags of soil does one need to fill the 48" x 48" x 10.5" raised garden bed?

Asked by: JerseyGardener
Bond does not specify the size of bags. I am guessing s/he is referring to the smaller bags. The specifications for this product indicate you will need 15 cubic feet to fill the bed. The larger sized bags sold in garden centers are 64 dry quarts (there are smaller and larger sizes as well; the 64 dry quart bags are the ones that generally run $8.99 to $11.99 give or take). Convert cubic feet to dry quarts -- 15ft³= 385US qt dry If you use the larger 64 dry quart bags, you would need 6 bags. At an average of $10 a bag, you will spend more on the soil than you did for the cedar bed. ;) There is garden soil (that you mix with your native soil, if you have pretty good soil that just needs a little amending), and there is potting soil (which you don't mix; it is usually used for plants in pots). I use Mel's Mix (from the 2nd edition of the book Square Foot Gardening): You create the mix yourself using 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 compost. Once you create this soil mix, you should only have to occasionally add more compost. You don't need to add more peat or vermiculite. Hope this helps.

Could these be stacked?

I want an 8' by 8' that is 21" High -- is this possible using four of these?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product! I love these beds. I have installed 6 of them in my garden. They are easy to assemble. I stain them to match my fence and tack gopher proof mesh on the bottom. I researched many raised beds and these were the cheapest and best I found. I plant flowers, bulbs and vegetables in them. I even won an award for best landscaping in my small town using these beds. I love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a fantastic product - well-designed and easy to assemble. I got this in order to create a square-foot garden and this is going to make that possible. The design, the way the boards fit into the corner pieces and the ability to use 2 boards or 3, and the ability to hook the frames together with each other make this so useful and easy to create the square-foot garden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product, easy to assemble. Made of cedar so it should last a long time. Product was easy assemble. Anybody can do it! Fun to watch your crops grow. I will be purchasing another one very soon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The wood is a bit green We've only had these up a couple of months so no clue on how durable these are. I was a bit surprised at how green the wood was. The wood was damp like they just cut it off the tree!!! One board is pretty bowed right now, we are going to flip the board so it bows in, instead of bowing outward. Other than that, generally happy with the boxes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Backyard Vegetable Garden! Easy to assemble, attractive and quite functional. Took all of 10 minutes to assemble and had it filled with soil and seeds within a half hour. Also, 4' dimension made it easy to implement "square foot gardening" One of the corner toppers was broken in shipping - called the company and spoke to a very nice customer service rep. She apologized and immediately sent out 4 more! Received in 2 days! So far everything is great. Hope to get 5 years out of them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking garden beds The kits assembled very easily. I did apply a water protectant as an extra measure, however not sure if I needed to. There were no cracked or broken boards and only a few were slightly bowed but not enough to hinder assembly. I think they look great and should last me for a number of years. I like the fact that replacement boards can be purchased further adding to the lasting functionality of these raised beds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst constructed material I was very excited about the raised bed until I received it. The boards were not of good quality, & were all cut of rough material. The posts were horribly routed & A LOT OF THE SHAVINGS WERE STILL ATTACHED TO THE POSTS & IT WAS VERY HARD TO CLEAN THEM. i GOT SO DISCUSSED i BROUGHT THE ITEM BACK.The top post were also VERY ROUGH CUT wood. Nothing was of the quality I expected. Extremely disappointed. The only positive was that the shipping was fast.
