Lasted 2 years in Colorado. I purchased 3 and one has to be replaced this year and the other two next year. May have lasts longer if we had sealed the wood. Otherwise they work great.

Answer:
I bought several (8) last year, they are not holding up very well. The wood top pieces have broken and the side slats no longer stay in the grooves. Side Slats have bowed or cracked. I love the concept but does not last longer than 2 years. I am looking to replace at least half of them already.

Bond does not specify the size of bags. I am guessing s/he is referring to the smaller bags.
The specifications for this product indicate you will need 15 cubic feet to fill the bed.
The larger sized bags sold in garden centers are 64 dry quarts (there are smaller and larger sizes as well; the 64 dry quart bags are the ones that generally run $8.99 to $11.99 give or take).

Convert cubic feet to dry quarts -- 15ft³= 385US qt dry
If you use the larger 64 dry quart bags, you would need 6 bags.
At an average of $10 a bag, you will spend more on the soil than you did for the cedar bed. ;)
There is garden soil (that you mix with your native soil, if you have pretty good soil that just needs a little amending), and there is potting soil (which you don't mix; it is usually used for plants in pots).
I use Mel's Mix (from the 2nd edition of the book Square Foot Gardening): You create the mix yourself using 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 compost. Once you create this soil mix, you should only have to occasionally add more compost. You don't need to add more peat or vermiculite.
Hope this helps. Read Less

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 122 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love the flexibility I bought several kits last year and added some more this year. I like that you can configure them the way you want. Very easy to put together and seems to be holding up. April 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple and Inexpensive This is a simple design. The four posts and the planks have dovetail joins. Like other reviewers have said, I found a fair amount of remaining sawdust in the notches. I passes the blade of a screwdriver through each one before setting up to remove anything loose. The planks slid easily into the notches. The whole setup took minutes. Note that there is no stabilizing or locking-in built into this bed. The planks slide to the ground and the subsequent planks stack side-to-side. The whole thing is free to move. The good part is you have a lot of room for adjustment by using the contour of the soil underneath or rocks to level things. I rank the quality low, because the planks are thin enough that you wouldn't want to sit on this bed as you reach across. But the bottom line is that I couldn't even build a bed from scratch for this low price. June 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent raised bed garden Very easy to assemble. This is my first raised bed vegetable garden, so I bought a smaller size. This product offers the ability to add on next year if I am so inclined. Nice looking. Working great so far. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Useful Product Good quality. Easy to assemble. Second one we've purchased. June 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheaply made garbage I bought 4 of these. They were roughly cut and looked horrible with shavings everywhere. Some of the boards were already warped before I took them out of the box. Corners were very flimsy - one broke as I was putting it together. I'll be shocked if these last longer than a year. Very disappointed! I bought them at the end of the summer and didn't put them together until Spring so I was unable to return them. May 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent product at a reasonable price. Product met my needs at a reasonable price in a quick time frame. Slightly concerned about products durability though. We will see as the season goes on. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love them Easily assembled and just what I wanted. Would recommend highly! May 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst constructed material I was very excited about the raised bed until I received it. The boards were not of good quality, & were all cut of rough material. The posts were horribly routed & A LOT OF THE SHAVINGS WERE STILL ATTACHED TO THE POSTS & IT WAS VERY HARD TO CLEAN THEM. i GOT SO DISCUSSED i BROUGHT THE ITEM BACK.The top post were also VERY ROUGH CUT wood. Nothing was of the quality I expected. Extremely disappointed. The only positive was that the shipping was fast. April 19, 2016
