Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Use of Fire Clay in Mortar I'm a big fan of using a small amount of fire clay with mortar. It makes the mortar stickier so it won't fall off the trowel and it adheres better to block and brick. Be careful not to use too much or your mortar will be like glue. Usually a trowel load per bag is about right. Mix well. May need to add a little water because the clay is very absorbant. April 13, 2009
