How do you turn it on? it does not seem it would be feasible to have a pull cord with no mounting hardware to speak of.

This is a simple, stylish fixture that enabled us to hang a light over dining a table without any new electrical work required. After trying another corded fixture that cost considerably more, I am much happier with this fixture for several reasons. First, the cloth cord hangs reasonably straight, unlike the plastic cord on the previous fixture, which refused to hang straight no matter what I did. Second, I found the fact that it does not have a switch to be a plus rather than a minus, as I am using a remote control wall switch. The lack of an in-line switch, which I wouldn't use anyway, makes it much easier to enclose the cord in a paintable cord cover. (I find the in-line switches are almost always in an inconvenient spot along the cord anyway, and the remote switch is a much more user-friendly way of turning the light on and off.) I do have two minor criticisms: the first is that I'd like the fixture better if it came with a diffuser plate across the bottom opening, as many drum fixtures do. Fortunately, it is very easy to adjust the height, so I am hanging it low enough that you do not see the bulb when seated at the table. The second criticism is that it is only rated for a 60 watt bulb or equivalent; a 100 or even 150 watt rating would make the lamp much more versatile. Still, for the price paid, it's a great lamp that is very easy to hang and that provides much-needed lighting in an area of a room that would otherwise be dark.

Either plug it into a switched outlet or doom yourself to plugging/unplugging every time you need a light. Needless to say, I'm not willing to do the latter, and I don't have the former in the area I need lit. This light is going back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Classic look, but small The light has a very nice look to it. classic. The cord is silver in case you are wanting white to match the ceiling. It also has an industrial vibe to the cord. However it is on the smaller side and for the area we were trying to illuminate, this lamp was not getting the job done. If you have a small area or room, it would probably work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Less than expected I am a decorator and often purchase online. Most of the time it is a perfect match. This time was a disappointment. The lamp was not a substantial quality but flimsy however at the reduced price I thought i would give it a try. It won't deter me from purchasing further Hampton Bay items or from Home Depot online.

Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to the size desescription, and as a result the light (shade) is smaller than I expected, but still works well over my desk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A critically missing detail in the specifications I have bought a number of hanging lamps over time. And every one I ever bought had a common feature. You could turn it on and off either at the socket or using a switch installed in line with the power cord.. These are normally bought by apartment dwellers, needing more light, but not being allowed to modify the premises. Well, not this one. Nope. No switch whatsoever. You either have to plug it into a switchable wall outlet, or plug and unplug every time you want to use it. So this purchase goes back tomorrow. Probably just as well. The lamp itself has a nice look about it, but the cord has a very industrial appearance.
