Rated 3 out of 5Â by BrisketWhisperer Great Light But Has Installation Issues
I ordered 5 of these lanterns. Not that I needed that much outdoor power, but my wife insisted that all our outdoor lanterns needed to match.
Why only 3 stars? I gave it one star for being mission style with a black and slightly oil bronzed finish. Another star for having a GFCI outlet. A third star for being made of metal and glass. No cheap plastic on this lantern. The 4th star is for the excellent packaging from Hampton Bay. Nothing broke in shipping. The fifth star is for not having to remove the cage to replace the light bulb. With the open bottom you just reach up inside and install a new bulb.
However, installation of these lanterns was a nightmare. And I'm deducting two stars for this. The documentation and pictures are terrible. It is designed poorly, and assumes you have an electrical box you are mounting it to. All my existing outdoor lights were flush mounted and had no electrical box. I found numerous screws on the unit that were lose, so check those first if you install one of these. Also, the crossbar is designed a bit oddly. Make sure you have the notch in the crossbar down on the left side. If not, the crossbar will hit the GFCI outlet making it impossible to get the screws of the crossbar to line up with the holes on the lantern box. Made in China. What can I say.
I also have to ding Home Depot. The email I received when I ordered said I would receive an email when they had shipped. I never got an email. A week later, a big box arrived with two lanterns inside. No packing slip or anything to indicate where the other lanterns were. I called Home Depot and the customer service rep had no idea why I only received two of our five units. He said he would have to contact their warehouse and I would receive a call back in 24 to 48 hours. No such call ever came. However the next day, a third lantern showed up at my door. I suspect the other two will arrive shortly but I have no information to confirm that. I suspect inventory of these may be low and they are being shipped from different distribution locations.
I will say that after some personal engineering, they are well mounted and look beautiful. I only wish the glass was a bit more frosted so you can't see the bulb as well. Granted this would cut down on the light output, but would allow me to use CFL twist bulbs for more energy efficiency. My wife thinks the CFL's are ugly so wants a regular incandescent bulb. And I'd pay even more for these lights if they had motion sensor and dusk to dawn capabilities but they do not.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Anova22 Great Lantern & GFCI Design Combination
I would have purchased this wall lantern solely based on its visual design, the fact that it is made of aluminum and will not rust, and that its shade is made of seeded glass that would give it a distinctive glow when lit.
However, as other reviewers have said, it is the well integrated GFCI outlet that makes this particular lantern the great product it is. Since my house is sided with brick, adding additional outlets would have been a major endeavor for me.
I, too, had some difficulty mounting the lantern. I found that by temporarily removing the plate the GFCI is attached to and letting it, with the GFCI outlet still attached, hang outside the lantern by its wires, I had more space inside the box making it easier for me to align the mounting screws with the mounting holes on the front of the lantern.
I plan to buy 2 more of this lantern to replace the two I currently have on the sides of my garage doors. Since I have no outdoor outlets near there, it will eliminate the need to run an extension cord to vacuum my cars and add air to the tires using my compressor as I must do now.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Mayteam looks good and works well
On the install, make sure that when you try to put the screws into the box, that you have them spread the correct width apart. The metal can bend wider or more narrow and then the screws don't line up with the holes. I spent awhile trying to figure out why the unit wasn't just sliding in and then figured out that though one screw was lined up, because the bracket was bent a little, the other one was off.
My unit is not very tight against the wall and so it will move when trying to put the plug in. Not a big deal to hold the unit while inserting the plug, but consider whether you want to use some other way to keep the unit from moving.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Caicow Looks better in person
The mounting screws were about 1/8" of an inch shorter than they should have been. Due to the screw length, installation was much trickier than it should have been. It looks good after installation, far less cheap than it looked in the picture.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by cs2111 Great Product! With a GFCI i now have safe power for my outdoor projects.
These lights are wonderful. They have a built in GFCI electrical outlet giving power outdoors for extension cords, Christmas lights or just cleaning the car. We really like how the lights extend out from the house accenting their style. Why has nobody thought of this before?
