I ordered this trap thru Home Depot because I had been borrowing my neighbor's older one that was made of heavier galvanized metal made in the USA. When I received the new trap I discovered that it was made in CHINA using lite weight tin metal. The lite weight makes it very hard to set the trap and put it it in place without it going off !! But I have caught a mouse and a chipmunk in it, so I'll keep using it.

We set up the trap just over a month ago and we still haven't been able to trap the rat or mouse that is in our garage. We have tried everything from cat food to peanut butter as the bate and it looks like the rat or mouse has actually gone inside and eaten some of the bate without the trap triggering!

It's a great concept in not having to kill animals, which we refuse to do.
It was rather flimsy and when I checked the box after I inspected the product I noticed that it was made in China.
I'll be taking it back and I'll see if I can find something of better quality.

I brought this trap to catch and release chipmunks.I had great difficulty setting the trap and keeping the bait in place. The trap seems to have a hair trigger and I set it twice only to find the trap sprung and the bait removed.I think the trap was too small for chipmunks.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Susan Poorly designed. Do NOT waste your time buying this, it doesn't work & will drive you nuts trying to set it
No offense to Havahart, but this particular trap will cause you nothing but frustration. I'm not sure how this "X-small 2 door trap" is getting even 1 good review. There is absolutely no way to get it to work, unless by some strange fluke the one I purchased has a radically different design than the ones which are getting good reviews here! I have two other Havahart traps with two different designs and those work great because they're well designed, and very easy to set: 1) Large size, 1 door, simple trigger. 2) Medium size, 1 door, new styled "easy-set trigger". This "X-small 2 door" trap, no matter how you try to overlap and set the 2 little bar levers and the 2 "lock" handles plus the 1 trip lever (5 different things to maneuver so you can simply set the trip plate and doors!), the floor trip plate thing will NOT cause the doors to close and lock. It's not a matter of doing it correctly, there's only a few possible combinations of setting the 5 components. We tried every combo. Nothing worked, even though each of the components did work freely independently. It's just a poor, flimsy design. I'm guessing it's the two-door design. Please know that I am not tech-challenged. This thing not working for me is because of it not working, not because I wasn't setting it correctly. I'm going to look for a different design, one with one door perhaps, same mechanism as my large or medium Havahart trap. For the record, I LOVE these Havahart traps because I can humanely catch critters and relocate them to nature away from my home in the suburbs. I'm not sure why anyone would purchase those evil, cruel glue traps or snap-break-neck/leg traps when these exist. Just because an animal is smaller than a human doesn't mean it doesn't suffer. I'm grateful to Havahart for making these humane traps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by amber good trap for chipmunks and very small squirrel
I wrote a bad review in the past. Sorry it was just the way i was setting it. I put chunky peanut butter and put a couple almonds too. My trick is making thenuts stick i used super glue. The chipmunks are si light they can get the bate snd not set iff the trap. The last step is to set the trap at a very light set off point.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by trapper1 A better mouse trap
Easy to set up once you got the feel for it... Very sensitive to trigger. I flattened the trigger arm with a file where it hooks together (making it a little less sensitive) so it didn't set it off every time I tried to place it on the ground...Still catches mice easily.

I bought one of these traps years ago, and I was very happy with it. The one I bought recently had lower quality material & looser tolerances on the moving parts, which degraded the trap's performance, and made it a lot harder to set & to stay set. Plus, they're kind of expensive.
