I bought this product to remove rust from a couple of guns. The rust wasn't too bad, but enough that I could see it. With a little gun oil and this bronze wool, I was able to scrub the rust spots out without causing any damage to the blueing around the rust spots. The bronze wool left the finish smooth to the touch and the rust could no longer be seen or felt. I applied oil to the entire gun to prevent additional rust and put them back in the safe. Bronze wool is less harsh on finished surfaces and if any of it gets left behind it will not rust like steel wool, which is a good thing for a lot of applications.

Bronze Wool has long been used by professionals to achieve superior refinishing results with wood. It is essential for boaters in maintaining a wood finish. Though my project is not a boat it is in an outside environment.
Unlike steel wool, which leaves behind small fibers that can rust and discolor wood in a corrosive outside environment, bronze wool resists shedding, rust, and corrosion. I used a marine varnish and allowed to dry. Then sanded with 400, 800, and 1200 grit wet/ dry sand paper using water as lubricant. Once dry I used the bronze wool to remove the scratches from the wet sanding. Rubbed with a terry cloth and then polished with a high quality carnauba wax. A beautiful hand rub finish.

Little known product that gives great results. Softer than steel wool so it doesn't scratch various finishes. Doesn't leave steel "fragments" imbedded in the work which will later rust. HD should stock this in stores, shipping for such a light weight product seems pricey.

This bronze wool will clean carbon off of steel without scratching the metal itself. Leaves a finely polished surface as opposed to the microscopic scratches from steel wool. It is an excellent product for cleaning fine machinery (like removing oxidation from a polished surface) or even cleaning the powder flash burns from a revolver cylinder.

I bought these pads so I could remove rust off of some guns so that I did not damage their finish. I have not worked on them yet but so far the one I have used has been great as a scrubber on cast iron frying pans to remove hardened food prior to re-seasoning. I used one on some other pans and it did not damage the copper or other surfaces on the bottoms of cooking pans. They do not shred and or lose their shape like steel wool or other metallic dish scrubbers. Also, they do not develop rust like those products while drying. They should be available at local stores not just online.
