Customer Questions & Answers

How tall and wide are the shelves? I would like to place a computer tower on one. My tower is 16.5 tall and 6.5 wide. Please let me know. thanks

I don't know the exact dimensions of the shelves, but I do know it does not have the clearance for a computer tower. I can't stack books in the shelves unless I lay them down, so if I had to guess I would estimate around 12" clearance. As for width I would estimate about the same. Hwever keep in mind it has sloped brakets so the clearance out the side of the shelves reduces as you go up in height.

What are the dimensions of the actual desktop? It looks wider on the bottom dimension than the desktop.

Asked by: Susie
Susie.. the desk is not wider on the top or bottom; the top and bottom come out just as far. The misconception is that the 'shelves' slope inwards. Because the desk has an overhang it comes out just as far as the legs. Meaning the bottom shelve is the same length (or close to it about 1/2 inch off) as the top of the desk. The only reason I can see for the 1/2 inch difference is because the footing sticks out another 1/2 inch.

How much weight can the desk hold on the main/top panel?

Asked by: lunchboxcookie
I'd imagine a good amount from the stability of having 4 contact point bases. I did not however max out the desk until it snapped so would be unable to answer the question by providing you with a 'breaking point'.

Customer Reviews

Kelman Writing Desk in Walnut is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece of furniture! Beautiful veneer; looks like solid walnut. Very nice design. Has a transitional look to it. Fits perfectly in small space and has airy footprint so doesn't overwhelm space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Bought 2 of these desks for my daughters. Instructions are a bit confusing, but the desks looks great. Very stylish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and sturdy It suits my needs. I have my cable box and PS3 on top along with a crystal bowl for candy. The middle shelves hold my Bose speakers and the bottom ones are perfect for magazines or whatever you please.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Desk seems OK, but had damaged parts Nothing is more frustrating than carrying a heavy box down a flight of stairs (2 person job), opening the box, spreading out all of the contents over a work area to assemble and finding broken parts. Both bottom shelves of my Kelman Writing Desk (Part F) were cracked width-wise. Home Depot customer support was extremely friendly, but referred me to the manufacturer who says the parts won't be available for 2 months. At least the rest of the parts will look nice while they're sitting on my floor...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Manufacturing and poor materials This product was bought for 48 dollars during a sale going on and it still is not worth the price. Let me start off by stating that I've put tons of 'assembly required' furniture together. Despite the typical troubles associated with such the following holds true for this particular piece. Pros: Finished product looks fine Cons: -Same Allen Key requirement as most (this one has an odd key that is rounded resulting in the key getting lodged in the screws/bolts which causes extra frustration) -Product had predrilled holes with holes that did not line up (hence not putting them all in due to it being impossible to do so; integrity of product I do not believe was compromised by skipping those bolts) -Item exterior was peeling from the start leaving exposed compound board on exterior -Item was damaged in shipping or in the manufacturing process which results in a finished product with blemishes and imperfections -Item though it may appear to be walnut finish is no way real wood but rather particle board After seeing the quality of this desk (after removing from packaging) I thought to myself I am going to dump this or assemble it but no way I am able to return it or willing to for 48 dollars. It would be more work than dumping it and not worth the 50 bucks So.... despite the end product looking "OKAY" I would suggest that others search for another product. One that does not arrive damaged or with misaligned holes. Oh and don't forget the exterior 'walnut' coating peeling.. a new desk should not arrive with such poor quality. Do as you wish but if you do decide to purchase you can't claim you weren't forewarned. Oh and I am on the East Coast typing this at 2:30am only because I am so very disappointed with this purchase. If you already received one from the Manufacturer and are not happy I'd urge you to join me in pointing out the weaknesses of your product so that Home Depot discontinues their working relationship with Home Decorators due to their low quality of craftsman ship. Think about how bad this product must be if I only spend 48 dollars (and why it was probably offered at 48 dollars at one point) and why am writing such a thorough review.... I'm not even trying to promote other desks....Personally I'd suggest buying something that you can see in person. Good luck

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice desk My scores are based on best quality being from hand made, all solid hardwood furniture. Decent quality and mostly all solid wood. The solid wood is soft wood (pine) and the rest is particle board (maybe mixture of that and MDF). The brackets that hold it together will break easily if you don't install them correctly or if you torque too hard (cheap aluminum). SThe table top is nice and heavy, fels like a real desk top. Looks great coupled with the 5 level bookcase from the same manuf. It goes together easy, instructions are clear enough and it looks nice. For $49 you cannot beat it. So, it is decent quality but for the price the value is excellent.
