In Home Depots description it does NOT mention whether or not the Oil is Automatic - I assume yes, but we all know about assumptions.

Can I run this on a 100-foot extension cord?

Asked by: Vermonter
For 100' advise to use 12ga as it will keep operating power strong for that distance. Higher gauge (14, 16, etc.) cord will work but, loss of power is more likely.

Can this be used to cut surface roots from tree?

Roots are from a 6 year old tree... I cut one of them with a butcher's knife so roots are young
Asked by: Karen
I wouldn't use a chainsaw to cut roots from a tree because of the dirt getting onto the chain. I use my sawzall with a pruning blade. Cuts almost as fast as a cheap chainsaw.

Needed something for smaller jobs This was well worth the money. Don't have to fool with gas/oil mixtures and tugging on rope. Just add oil and plug it in. It does use bar oil but I cut down and bucked a whole tree and only had to partially fill once. And it's easy to clean using air compressor. Don't have to disassemble. Have used it for two jobs now.

I'm a 62 year old woman who is used to using lighter weight blowers, battery powered trimmers, and so on, but I have always been really a chicken to be around an electric chainsaw. Since I am very active caring for my extensive landscaping of bushes, trees, and plants, I don't hire out help except on rare occasions and then it is difficult to get someone. With so many small jobs popping up, I would kill myself with a handsaw, paying the price for days with my neck and upper shoulders. This way if I have a quick job I do it myself and it is done and I can move on. This paid for itself with just one job that I would need to hire out. I just love it and wish I had gotten one sooner. The safety features put me at ease, it is lightweight, and caring for it is so easy...just keep it clean and oil in it. It has worked for any job I have given it that included up to 4 inch diameter branches, it just takes time, but a nice clean cut.

We had an older electric saw die after thirty years. When our tree in the yard needed cutting down this was a great tool. The daily rental rate for a gas saw was about the same as the purchase price of this one and it made sense. I did however have to get the heavier duty blade but then again I cut down a tree with over a "36 diameter. Unless you plan on felling trees all day, this is a great purchase that will get the job done and not break the bank! After three months of use, I would recommend this to any yard warrior.

I've had this chain saw a number of years now and have nothing but praise for it. While some may think it only for light duty cutting it can do far more. I purchased it when Hurricane Sandy uprooted a very tall evergreen on my property and my gas chainsaw was inoperable. Considering what a contractor would have charged to remove the tree I would have been happy if the Homelite only lasted for this one job. Instead it came through with flying colors and since than I've cut down four more large trees with the tallest being over 50' with this little saw. I use it to cut the entire tree except for the base which I switch to my 16" electric due to the diameters. For my initial investment of $50 and half a dozen chains I've saved thousands.

I had part of a tree fall in my backyard and bought this chainsaw. It's lightweight and very easy to use. The chain did fall off a few times but it was because I was being too aggressive with a thick part of the tree. I watched a youtube video to learn how to put it back on....I'm very challenged with directions :). The largest part of the tree that I had to saw was 10" - 12" in diameter and even with doing that I had to work the saw a bit and move it around the trunk, but it really did a great job.

Adjusting the tension was difficult, would barely move. Not having time to drive back to home depot I disassembled the blade area and found the adjusting screw stem to be bent. I removed the stem and adjusted the blade by hand. Worked well after that. I will ordered a replacement stem on line for $.75. Note some sites list the item as out of stock or discontinued. I would recommend the saw, from other reviews I think the bent stem was not normal problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice electric saw I bought this for storm clean up after hurricane dropped some trees and I have never used a chainsaw before but was recommended an electric chainsaw. After reading through reviews I decided that this 14' homelite was all I needed and indeed it was true. Saw was easy to set up and ready to cut straight out of box. No trouble with anything. I used it for several hours sawing through pine trees with ease. Highly recommend this easy to use powerful little work horse.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So so This saw might be good for really small trees. We had two 6" trees that were touching at the base of the trunk. Not sure of the type of tree but the company that cut the upper sections said it was Adler. This saw started off great, but once it hit the dark brown section of the trunk, it went a lot slower. I even got a replacement blade with out any luck. It took hours to get the two bases cut flush wit the ground.
