Customer Questions & Answers

What is wrong with the app?

I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support last night. The thermostat looks great and works great except the app won't connect muy phone to the thermostat. We tried both the Android and iPhone versions with the same results. It will not register the device to the thermostat. Please help.

Are you sure? I had a similar problem, registration kept failing despite hours on the phone trying over and over, but it turned out that the registration had been successful the first time and my android app was able to connect. I agree -- it's buggy. I had other problems and am returning it.

Can i control 2 zones with this one?

Asked by: Yaqub
I have a two story house using a single A/C unit, a single furnace and an electronically controlled modulating damper to direct heating/cooling to the 1st or 2nd floor depending upon which zone is selected via the thermostats. I've installed two Lyric T5 thermostats to replace the two existing thermostats and it is working great. Both thermostats appear on my iPhone and I can adjust the 1st or 2nd floor temperatures independently of each other. Note: You can name your thermostats to differentiate between them. I have named my Corny1 and Corny2 for reasons only known to me and my family.

I have a two wire system that is powered by a 24 volt transformer. Power is supplied to a two wire stat and returns to the zone valve to open or close a zone for heat only no A/C. There are no wires from the boiler to the wall stat. Will this thermostat work for me.

Lyric T5 Wi-Fi Thermostat is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY!!!!!! Whatever you do, don't buy this thermostat or any other Honeywell thermostat. This is the third Honeywell thermostat I have owned and I deeply regret I didn't learn my lesson the first 2 times. The first thermostat, a early generation WIFI model stopped working after 1 year. I then decided to go with another newer generation WIFI model, and the WIFI radio stopped working after 2 months. Needless to say, it functioned as a very expensive, non-internet connected thermostat. Then I purchased this model, after 3 hours of trying to connect to my home network and 2 hours on hold with Honeywell, I was informed the server was down "due to holiday traffic" and a projected fix time was unknown. Complete junk! I'm returning and buying the Nest. I suggest you do the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the rental property Overall, this is a very good thermostat. The installation was super easy and there were very few tools required to get it installed. One thing to note was there there was no back plate included, so it may leave some holes visible from previous thermostat. The setup is easy with or without the app. The app connects directly over WiFi for setup, but only works partially without internet connectivity. Internet access is required for the thermostat to allow schedule changes via the app. The screen lock feature is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation or online, but is available. Both partial lock (allows temporary and permanent hold adjustments) as well as total lock. The PIN for screen lock, however, is not adjustable. It gives you the PIN when the feature is enabled. We are using this thermostat for a rental property and it suits the need very well. It allows for remote control of the property and security, but still lets the guests make the adjustments they need to be comfortable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New technology - angelic or devilsh I am a novice electrician and diy'er it took a phone call to Honeywell's customer service to figure out wiring. Do your homework first and find out whether your cooling/heating system has been wired with 4 wires or newer 5 wires (C wire). If 5 wire follow instructions in user manual. If 4 wire you will have swap the power supply wire that operates the manual on/off fan control for the power supply to operate the thermostat. This requires changing the wiring at the thermostat and inside the furnace. If you really need to operate your fan independently Honeywell suggests separately purchasing a module that is installed inside the furnace. Once wired you have to use Honeywell's web site to register and sync between mobel phone app and thermostat via home wi-fi. Be patient this took many tries and Honeywell's server is slow responding. It took longer to setup and sync phone app than wiring. Once completed everything is operational. I bought this product based on price and rebate offerings. I did not want to spend over $200 as compared to other manufacturers products. If your a techie you'll appreciate the convenience of adjusting your thermostat when no one is home therefore saving on energy costs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What an advancement over a 7 day programmable thermostat I've been wanting a WiFi thermostat for a few years and was just able to get this Lyric T5. The Lyric T5 requires a 5 wire set up, but my old thermostat wiring was only 4 wire (no C or common wire, which is required). Fortunately, my furnace did have all the connections to support a 5 wire (C or Common wire hookup). I picked up 5 wire wiring, ran new wiring from my furnace to existing thermostat location. The Lyric install manual is great and provides locations to document wire coloring / wiring connection and recommends taking a picture of your hood-up too. The Lyric wire hook up is a simply wire push, so if you're old thermostat had a wire wrapped around a screw, use some flat head pliers to straighten the wire before pushing it into the Lyric. Once hooked up (took me about 30 minutes to run my new wire and then about 20 minutes to wire up and mount the new Lyric base), it's on to downloading the Lyric app, creating an accounting and configuring your Lyric. My Lyric immediately found my wireless, but timed out the first time during registration. Second time worked perfectly. The app walks you through the traditional 7 day programming (wake, leave, home, sleep), but where this thermostat shines is the geofence feature. The geofence tracks your cell phone location to (and/or anyone who lives in the home) to determine if you're away or on your way home. The thermostat will then back down or start up your home/away programs. Very excited about this feature. After a week, it seems to be working great and is especially nice for weekend override of standard program (if you're out running long long errands or take a trip, the T5 knows and adjust the program). Thus far, the only negative I see... the T5 is smaller than my old thermostat and will require me to do some touch up paining.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy - good buy but it's small I was going back and forth between this and the ecobee light - after wanting a nest for years - all the HVAC folks I talked to gave the Nest a bad review -For me the price point and geofencing gave this one the nod - installation was very easy - had read it took some people over 30 minutes - I was done in 15. If you are handy and have done similar work before it won't be a problem. Ease of app is fantastic - my only beef is that it's smaller than I would have thought. If you have a larger sized thermostat your replacing - the old holes will probably show - research the specifics 1st. Overall great FIRST entry into smart thermostats - would def recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Headaches and expense. I've only had them in a week and they seem to be working very well. However, I have a Uber complicated zone controlled system so my installation aspirations were quickly thwarted. 500 dollars later (on top of product cost) they were installed. I then spent ALL day (several hours with Honeywell support) getting them to connect to wifi. I guess my security settings were too tight for them to communicate. All that being said they're in and they're working. It's going to take a while to offset what they cost to install. Also although it says in the store that there's a rebate available from GA power I've not been able to find one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Luke warm I realize every home is going to be different in respects to HVAC setup so as they say, your mileage may vary. I had a heck of a time getting this thing setup. I thought it was going to be a cinch since the thermostat I was replacing was also a Honeywell unit. I followed the directions to a T and the first time around it popped a fuse on the A/C unit. Had to wait until the next day to get a new fuse and get on the roof the replace. Take 2 - Backtracked everything and tried again. The unit powered up and I went through the setup process. The fan would work but the A/C or Heat wouldn't turn on. Grr. At that point I needed A/C back so I swapped back the old unit until I had more time to troubleshoot and could go without A/C. Take 3 - Verified all of the wiring was what indeed what was setup. Still didn't work, so I did some trial and error with the wiring. Maybe not the recommended step, but I was getting frustrated. I actually ended up getting it to work. I can say it does do what it advertises. Operation is easy, wifi works. Personally I don't care for the interface all that much and mixed with install troubles I would likely choose a different unit if I had to do it all over again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BAD APP I am talking to text, so please forgive the grammar and spelling errors.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS THERMOSTAT! The biggest problem with this thermostat is the Honeywell lyric app. I can not get the app to connect to my thermostat or to Honeywell. I have now tried about 10 times to establish a connection, I kept getting a Telemetry error. I called Honeywell for assistance. To make a long story short after two phone calls and almost 3 hours on the phone, their customer service Department could not solve the problem. They escalated my situation to their experts and technical support, and it has now been three days, and I have not received a phone call yet. if you will look that other reviews on the lyric app comma you will see that they have had problems for a while. I am tired of dealing with the situation, so I am going to buy a Nest thermostat immediately. another problem that Honeywell has another problem that Honeywell has with this thermostat is that it states in there printable installation instructions that there is a decorative cover plate to go around the T5 thermostat, but it is not available anywhere! maybe Honeywell maybe Honeywell will figure this out someday, but they just lost a customer!
