I would NOT just attempt extracting it without FIRST adding plain hot tap water into the fill tank with a good carpet cleaning solution and THEN go over the area where you need to extract from the carpet. The reason WHY is because whatever mess/water is soaked into the carpet, it could have started a bad mold with a stink along with it, so it is BEST if you CLEAN the carpet with the carpet cleaning solution so that you will be removing the mess under the carpet WHILE you are cleaning and extracting the mess from the carpet. I hope this is clear and you understand what I am telling you here. A dry/vac will not solve your problem because it will only suck the water. You need to consider how long your carpet has been "wet" and what caused it before you decide you just need to suck the water or actually need to clean the carpet from all the "whatever mess" you've got there. Answer:
Technically yes it can pull water that leaked or was spilled into the carpet. Its better to pull up as much as you can with a shop vac especially if its allot of water or if its dirty water. After pulling up as much as you can then if it was dirty water clean the carpet with the carpet cleaner.

Yes, this will take water out of a carpet without cleaning solution. You just don't press the trigger when you push it. It doesn't do as well as an extractor, but it has good suction.

Hi Tomas, I contacted Hoover, as I did not see an answer in there manual.
Hoover stated yes, you can use this to pick up water without solution in the tank. Hoover stated the top tank is to disperse and the bottom tank is for the pickup of water. So enjoy.

Hi Tomas,
Yes, you may use this machine to remove water from your carpet.
However a carpet cleaner is designed to draw away the cleaning solution and not necessarily dry the carpet.
A shop vac may actually work better.

This unit does not heat the water. Do NOT use boiling water. It doesnt actually use steam to clean. Hot water with no cleaner does an excellent job of loosening the carpet fibers so the scrub brushes loosen the dirt and then its sucked up with the water. While using the upholstery cleaner I used my hot water heaters hottest setting and the water tube on the upholstery hose expanded and popped off its connector that is used to plug it into the carpet cleaner. A fountain of water went into the air and was sucked into the suction porthole next to the upholstery connection point. The upholstery wand no longer pumps water to its sprayer but I can still clean my carpet. I think suction is used to pressurize the water to spray out the upholstery tool and water was sucked into the pump. Regardless 140deg water with no cleaner cleans my carpet very well. If the carpet cleaner suits unused the water temperature will gradually decrease in the clean water tank. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Carpet Cleaner - Easy to use, easy to clean and certainly gets the carpet CLEAN!!! This is one SUPER great carpet cleaner. We had a bissel and it was such a pain to empty/clean that we ended up using it 6 or 7 times in 4 years. We had a fixer upper with newer carpet but with all the workers coming in and out with muddy shores and dropping things while working, we had stains, dirt, mold you name it. Reputable carpet cleaning for 1900 sq. ft of carpet was over $600. Cheaper ones had TONS of complaints. We decided to give this guy a try and if it does not work we will return it promptly. This thing DELIVERED.. It was easy enough for our 8-year old to operate. Got everything out (except some old paint stains so we used goof-off). It got the mold next to the window from the rot damage, it got the ingrained mud and just about everything else. For nasty stains, you may need to go over it a couple of times. The 6 sq. ft area next to the entry door where EVERYONE walked and dirtied took 5 times because after the first time the carpet turned grey as all the dirt that was inside went up to the surface. But it DID get clean! Use the wand for the corners and just hard-scrub a couple of times. Do yourself a favor and get the Odoban 3 in 1 Carpet clean at HD as it works fantastic and id does NOT need rinse so it saves you a lot of time. Highly recommended machine and easy to empty the waste water and clean. October 5, 2016

I am very impressed with my cleaner and with the extremely friendly people that work at HOME DEPOT. I am disabled and they helped me with everything from putting the cleaner in the cart and helping me to my car and loading everything into my car. I am so very impressed with the kind courteous and friendly staff that work at HOME DEPOT and so are my friends and family. we will all be making HOME DEPOT our store to get our appliances, tools and all the stuff we need for around the house at a good price. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR BEING SO HELPFUL YOU HAVE A GREAT STORE WITH GREAT PRICES AND A WONDERFUL STAFF. . October 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Look no further! Very pleased... My cat vomited on the rug in a few different places but you would never know after using the Turbo machine, looks great! After I used the Turbo for the first time my cat threw up again and it felt so good to be able to just clean it up with my own machine instead of renting one or hiring someone to clean my carpets, it came right up :) June 21, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good Price... Great Surface Stain Cleaner This is ok for surface stains... Hurry and don't let any dry.. Takes several Long passes for the stains to be extracted. Can't argue with the price... October 25, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Works great and does the job! Not one year the turbine needs replaced and screw are rusted. Clean after everyuse and dried. Call Hoover and they ask me to take it to a repair company to look at it and see what is wrong. My Aunt is a service Tech for sears. We already did what they would have done. Took pictures and told them the problems and what all needs replaced. That was not good enough for customer service. I do not have time take it 20 miles away to have it looked at by another tech and then drive back to pick it up, plus time off work. I paid $147 and they are now on sale for $98. Paying a tech to look at it, replace parts and screws to repair it, my gas and my time off work should = a replacement. Not to mention again a repair tech from sears already looked at it and said what was wrong for FREE! June 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best shampooer value out there! I purchased this a few weeks ago at my local Home Depot and just used it for the first time on 5-23-2016. The assembly was very easy with just two handle screws to install and snapping the fill tank into place. This unit is simple to use and the water pick up is amazing. I had been using an off-brand unit and this unit outperforms it 10 to 1. Now my carpets are noticeably cleaner. If you are looking to buy an affordable unit-look no further. I am very pleased with this purchase. May 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this carpet cleaner! Light, good suction, easy to manuever. It is also easy to take apart to clean. I bought this because I have an older dog who has accidents and this is so easy to pull out and set up. Very happy with my purchase. October 25, 2016
