I have a Hunter Fan and have put LED lights in it. Is this suitable for LED's. I've seen that they make a special dimmer for LED's??

Answer:
LEDs typically need a special dimmer and this may not work. It does depend in part on which LED bulb you have chosen.

Answer:
LED light bulbs do generally require you to use a dimmer rated for it.
However, some LED bulbs in the industry, CREE being a good example, can work on older dimmers such as this without issues.
With that said, at this time there is no dual slide controls for a ceiling fan rated for dimmable CFL and LED bulbs.
However, you can try a CREE bulb to verify.

My understanding is that this control can be used with all ceiling fans. It is also my understanding that using this controller prevents use of a remote control.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Practical switches The Hunter slide switches are attractive an practical since they add a fourth speed of ceiling fan operation. they are however a bit more flimsy than I had expected. Time and long term use will tell how well they hold up. May 31, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by yup, knobs break easy The fan knob broke off within a year. It truly is a very weak design and wonder how something like this gets approved and worse yet, not fixed. Everything else about this works well and I really need the low speed for the work we do in the room with the fan on. March 22, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Design This switch has a high rate of failure due to the knobs coming off and the knobs are not sold separately. I have not experienced this problem as of yet but the switch has tiny knobs and they are hard to move - I can see how the knob would fail. I would have chosen another switch but I couldn't find one that would work with my fan I love The Home Depot but I hope they read this response and review the quality of of the product they choose to have in their stores. I would think that if a product has a problem where the knobs break and come off they would at least offer replacement knobs. December 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hunter 4 speed fan control wall switch I replaced two existing 3 speed Hunter fan switches, because the fan control levers broke off from switch. The 4 speed switch has similar flimsy fan control levers, plus a robust on/off switch at the bottom. Once I set the speed to the desired setting, I use the on/off switch to control the fan. I minimize my need to touch the speed control lever, so these switches should last longer. If either fails, I will replace with another brand that is more robust. I am surprised Hunter puts out these flimsy products. October 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic Knobs We have about 6 of these in the home when we bought it. ALL of the plastic knobs have fallen off and there are no replacements. I sent Hunter an email and they said, sorry we don't offer them. Well now I have to replace all those switches with a different brand. This is very bad product design and support. September 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent purchase The dual fan and light control was really easy to install and control the fan speed and lighting very well. Controls must be operated carefully but they function well. March 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap, not inexpensive The plastic caps on both slide levers broke off within two days of use. I think the sliding mechanisms were to tight or something because the levers were hard to move. Since the levers are made of plastic, it didn't take but a few uses before for the first one broke off. The second broke the same afternoon. I actually spent more time installing this than using it. I bought a more expensive but better made product to replace this one. Please don't waste your money on this product! May 24, 2009
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by lousy I bought (2) of these switches in August 2008 and its Sept. 19, 2008 and I'm already replacing it. It shorted out for some reason and melted on one side. The electrician says it must have been defaulted in some way because all the wiring was fine, everything was checked. Not sure what to recommend for a replacement because I'm looking now because I really don't want to reorder the same switch again. Look around before ordering this one. September 18, 2008
