I purchased this tool chest to replace a 20 year old Craftsman tool chest that I had outgrown. At my local store I noticed that there were two 41 in., 16-drawer Husky tool chests. From outward appearances they seemed to be identical. Same dimensions, features, etc., however, one was on sale for $398 (reg $498), the other was priced at $498 with no discount. When I asked the salesperson for assistance, they told me that they were "pretty much the same", so I opted for $398 model that I am reviewing here. After opening the box, I didn't notice any dents or scratches as many reviewers had found. What I did notice was that the clamshell top was misaligned and didn't sit flush with the outer frame when closed. I was able to easily bend the top into alignment with a gentle push of my hands. That should have been the first clue that something was amiss. This is supposed to be a sturdy tool cabinet. You shouldn't be able to easily bend the metal with your hands, but I didn't think too much about it and continued assembly. The unit went together easily. Once assembled, I noticed that the unit seem to wobble, even with no tools loaded. My Craftsman unit was rock solid (I had already emptied it). I confirmed that it was sitting on an even surface (it was). Still reveling in the fact that I had saved $100, I just figured that once I added a few hundred pounds of my tools it would make it more stable. Well, the added weight of my tools made things worse. I thought that maybe I had loaded it improperly, so I moved heavier items to the rear of the drawers to distribute the weight differently. No luck, the cabinet still wobbled and rocked with the slightest push. It was so unstable, that I worried about it being unsafe if my granddaughter accidentally bumped it. Closer inspection revealed that the metal forming the base where the wheels are mounted twisted and flexed. Not good. I returned to the unit to the store and got the $498 version ( model #HOTC4116B1QES). Closely comparing this unit with the one that I originally purchased, the differences in construction we now more clearly evident. The clamshell top is welded at the bend points and the edges are channeled and wider. The back panel and interior side panels (top) are riveted to the frame. The top unit is screwed to the base unit, not just resting on it. The mounting points for the top support struts are beefier. The ends of the drawer handles are finished with plastic end caps. The drawer liners are nicer and fit better. Lastly, the bottom of the frame where the wheels mount is reinforced. The more expensive version is rock solid both empty and fully loaded with tools. This unit (Model# H4116CHTR) is not a bad unit. For a homeowner or hobbyist with light needs, it will probably fit the bill. For someone that will use this tool box a lot more or with heavy tools I would recommend the $498 unit.

Second one of these that I bought as it makes sense and I like the drawer sizes. With my MATCO, SNAP-ON (2), and KENNEDY industrial boxes I can now house everything that I want to and keep it organized. Not as heavy, nor as robust as the other, more pricier boxes, but clearly up to the task of keeping tools sorted and protected. For the specs just read the ad copy and avoid all the redundant questions. Nice finish, well-cut drawer liners, decent wheels, and overall drawer depths and sizes and at $398 (during the sale period) a real no-brainer. Buy a little bigger than your current needs as you will appreciate the extra room and undoubtedly acquire more tools. I recommend this box without reservation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value First thing is first, this is without question a really SOLID, well built box. I bought it on sale at $398... and I STILL can't believe what a steal that was. The slides are solid and smooth, and of course it only gets better when you start to weigh the drawers down. The only reason I am giving this box 4 stars instead of 5 is for the really odd drawer size. They drawer depth tends to be too shallow for certain tools, and the width is non standard too... this limits what drawer organizers you can use. I looked at US General and Craftsman very hard before this one, and couldnt believe how much more value per dollar this offered. If you're looking for the best bang for the buck tool box, just stop and click add to cart. You can thank me later!

Solid heavy duty wheels, and a handle for easy maneuvering. The top shelf has 2 openings in the back panel for running power cords. I keep drills, battery chargers and spare batteries there. Each drawer has a foam lining on the bottom to keep tools from sliding. Lots of usable storage here.

Its built like a sherman tank, with thick powder coated surfaces, and built very heavy duty. The dual slides on both the bottom drawers are incredibly strong for heavy objects. A great toolchest that will hold a ton of my tools.

Something is wrong with the locking mechanism. Also when I put the top on one of the eye holes screws was stripped. Instead of taking this heavy thing back to the store Home Depot just gave me a partial refund. I still would recommend this product. Changes of you getting a bad one are rare.

For a homeowner/DYI'er with enough tools for weekend projects and to work on the family buggy, it's a perfect size to fit in an already crowded garage. The draws slide nice and it takes a bit to pull them open to prevent them from opening accidentally if you're moving it. From the product description. "These slides also have a unique secure latch retention system that ensures your drawers are completely closed and secured." To further improve it I would preferred it had four caster wheels and a handle on each end. It was a bit challenging to jockey it into position. I could not roll it into my location and I had to lift it a bit from the side handle. Already filled it with some tools it was quite heavy. If you plan to continuously roll it around in a shop buy a second set of matching castors. Purchased it on line from store stock around Dec 15. When I arrived to pick it up 1 1/2 weeks later, it was in storage and assembled with my name on it. Two young employees gladly helped me load it into the truck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beyond Impressed I searched Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, online, drove all over the place trying to find the right toolbox. I researched specs and reviews because when i buy i don't like buying junk. I was looking for a small less expensive box. I found you still get what you pay for. Even some other brands of more exspensive boxes were not built great. Then this box caught my eye in HD. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but the more I opened and closed the drawers the closer I came to rolling it to my truck. It's use of drawer organization and size is amazing. I literally filled less than half this box with all my tools, and I have a decent amount. Now I have plenty of room to add to my collection. The drawers are strong and roll smooth. The box is built like a tank from lid to wheels. This is definitely going to last year's, maybe it'll be the last box I own. Continually impressed with Husky products. Another customer was thinking of buying the same while I was there and I saw another same box in another neighborhood. No doubt a great choice.
