Do these work well for speaker wires?

I'm installing a whole building PA system for our church using a 70V system, so multiple speaker wires can be attached to one amplifier output or volume control with no affect on the load. I have speaker wires ranging from 12 AWG, 14 and 18.

Answer:
tsb1226 The connector is rated for 12 - 16 AWG stranded conductors that contain 19 strands or less, 18 - 14 AWG if you Tin Bond the conductors. Good luck on your 70 V sound system. Ron at Ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

I stand corrected. I realized after I submitted my previous answer that the brand name was not the same as I tested. These are stranded wire rated. My apologies to whom it may concern.

These connectors are not rated for stranded wire and I tested them with stranded wire and they basically failed (wires were way too loose). I do not recommend them for any stranded wire. Even if they work at first there could be failure later with normal thermal cycles. Speaker outputs will usually not cause the thermal cycle, but I still wouldn't trust them.

I am not sure what the other reviewer that mentioned they were rated for stranded wire. It is on the package that they are for solid only.

Answer:
Although these are rated for stranded wire, the individual strands in speaker wire are very fine, and I think you'd find it difficult to insert them into these connectors. At least without tinning the ends, and if you're doing that, you might as well just solder the splices. Barring soldering, wire nuts or crimp connectors would probably be a better alternative.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Carefully Inspect Package Before You Purchase A word of caution; carefully inspect the package for cuts, as people often slice these open to take a few pieces without paying. The product works well, it's the people you can't trust. June 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Safer great time saver This connector is the same great design as the 2 and 4 port. I have been using them for all my electrical connections. The clear design allows you to actually verify the wires are making the proper contact--Impossible with a wire nut. I also found that by twisting the connector and pulling the wire, it can release without a tool. I would actually suggest buying another 100 pack of the 4 port connectors rather than the 3 port. It is such a time saver to have one extra port to use later that it has been worth the 1 cent additional price per connector. October 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple Installation Very simple to use. As an electrician, I find most DIY'ers do not make quality connections with wire nuts, leading to all sorts of issues. I highly recommend these for their ease in making a proper connection - just strip the wire to the length indicated and insert fully. They also are a little more compact in a tight device box.
