I have a badger 1 \ 1/3 hp that is leaking at the very bottom of the unit it self / no leaks on the plumbing connections ...

Can I replace it with the same new model badger 1 if it needs to be replaced ? What if anything can I.do to stop the leaking through the unit ?
Asked by: George
Mine also leaked from the bottom of the unit. I disassembled it and saw that the plate at the bottom of the grinding chamber had rusted through. allowing water to leak into the electric motor compartment below. Big time shock hazard, especially if you only have a two prong electrical outlet.

Garbage disposal only hums when I hit the reset button

My in sink badger garbage disposal only hums when I hit the reset button for a few short seconds then goes out again. Do I need to re[lace my current unit, or is their anything else that I can try to do to get it to work again.

Try using the included allen key by inserting it into the bottom of the disposal and turn

I have a Badger 1 Model 1-56. What model can I replace it with?

Asked by: Anonymous
If you want the same thing, a Badger 1. If you want more horsepower go up to a 5. All Insinkerator models use the same sink mount so if your's is still in good shape you can get any Insinkerator disposer you want, not just the Badgers. Look at the product size dimensions and compare to what you already have. It's the pipes underneath that made need length adjustment. If your Badger is really old and rusted through, the disposer may break off instead of twist off and it may be impossible to replace only the disposer part. It's not that hard to replace the sink mount but it does take time and plumbers putty.

Badger 1 1/3 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 2056.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A very basic product with low performance This insinkerator was included by the builder for my home. Within the first week it needed to be reset and was making a loud noise because something was loose. By the second week it was clogged from carrot peelings. Water began to back up into my sink so I had to use a plunger to free it up. I was very surprised that it can't handle the small quantity of peelings. It is fairly quiet during operation so I give it 2 stars overall. If I had any say in this purchase, I would have selected a model with more horsepower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product needs a power cord to be ncluded in the box. Our old Insinkerator just stopped working one day. It was in our 6 year old home when we purchased it 7 years ago, so it lasted about 13 years. We had a plumber install it and the only problem we noticed is that a power cord was not included, as noted on the small print on the box. It's too bad one cannot be included for either a homeowner to install or a plumber. It was more costly to have it installed than the original price........... All in all, it is working just fine, and we hope for another 13 years!

Item was OK, however, I was disappointed that it took much longer to receive it than promised (web site stated I would receive it by Jun 23, if ordered within the next 2+ hours; instead, I got in on the 26th--I ordered on June 20th. I could have gotten the same item from Amazon at the same price but within 2 days! Much more disappointing was discovering that the disposal was missing the power cord; luckily I had kept the old one handy so I had to remove and reinstall the cable onto the new disposal. Also disappointing was finding out that the needed "plumber putty" was not included in the package--had to stop installation and drive to town to find a plumber and get an entire bucket when only a small amount (ring) was needed. Recommend the manufacturer include all required items in the package for a complete assembly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaks already I got this item because I had an old Badger One and I figured the job would be simple to swap the new one in, and it mostly was. However, the disposal is already leaking from the bottom. It is pretty disappointing that a new, warranted item basically leaked immediately from the moment of installation. Now, I guess I am forced to remove it and return it and cross my fingers that the next one isn't defective.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Basic builder grade disposal This unit came with the house and was installed by the builder. After installation, the unit was extremely noisy. Seems the grinder cogs were loose from the factory. Based on my experience, I don't expect this unit to last very long. If you are purchasing a disposal, spend the few extra dollars to get a unit with stainless steel on the inside and more insulation for sound.

My son-in-law made the switch easily as all connections were identical. Note: If a dishwasher drain line is connected to the disposal, remember to remove the knockout plug on the disposal before the replacement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compact features/ We have had a quieter and larger insinkerator before. This is a new home built in a 55 and older community. This model is smaller but ok. Noisier than the other.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Motor stopped working after just 2 years. After just 2 years of light use, the motor stopped working. It doesn't seem reasonable to expect to replace a garbage disposal every 2 years.
