is it more difficult or easier to install planks that are wider or narrower. Isn't a 11"wide plank too tough for a diy'er.

Plank size makes no difference. Personal skill level and acceptance of flaws are the important factor.

SInce the only cuts you'll need to make are on the ends/edges where they will be covered by quarter-round, these cuts do not have to be absolutely 100.000% perfect. If you have a table saw, that will work as well and even faster. I just remeved the fence, lined it up and eyeballed the cut along the trim line. For long rip cuts (parallel to walls, etc), pop the fence back into place and let 'er ride. Read Less

Answer:
You are correct, 11 inch wide planks would be very hard for a diy'er to cut.
However they make for a more attractive looking floor.

The sample should be correct or open a box in the store and see the true color. All photos and computers will show a tint change so the color on line is never correct. Did you purchase this flooring? I am thinking about it myself. Thank you

Answer:
Thank you for your question about the Rio Brazilian Walnut. Both are actually correct. The floor shot shows an overall view of what the finished product looks like. The sample is a close shot so that you can see wood grain. It is from a lighter section of the planks. Thank you for your interest in our product.

Answer:
No, we do not recommend steam mops for maintenance. Ideally, maintenance should consist of regular sweeping/vacuuming along with the occasional use of a laminate floor cleaner. We recommend Bona Stone, Tile and Laminate Cleaner.

Answer:
Hey MGIII,
As the other user stated, you can install laminate flooring over most existing floors, provided they are level, secured to the subfloor, and clean.
If they aren't, you'll need to repair those affected areas so that that the new laminate planks can successfully be installed over it.
Failure to do so can lead to the planks shifting and coming up.

Answer:
In the den, we installed it directly over a plywood subfloor; in the dining room, we installed over a worn hardwood floor; and in the living room, we installed it over a vinyl tile floor. In each case, it turned out just fine.

If you are running a pattern, there are four pieces to the total pattern. If you number each piece 1, 2, 3, and 4, you get 2 pieces of #1, 2 pieces of #2, and only 1 piece of #3 and #4 in every box. Needless to say, you have way too much of #1 and #2, and not enough of #3 and #4 planks. The pattern is distinct, so if you don't factor in the pattern, your floor will be very abstract and random. To solve our problem, we ended up ordering three additional boxes to finish the pattern. Just remember: do not go by the square foot measurement. Make a drawing of your floor and calculate the pattern before buying knowing that the planks are 11+ wide by 47+. Keep in mind that you will have a good bit of waste involved since the click and lock system can only go in one direction. Order extra! We were quite frustrated!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! I had to special order this laminate online I took a chance but figured if I didn't like it I would exchange. After receiving the product it was much better then the photos HD posted. I have to say one plank is amazing but all as one, all I can say is wow and I'm a picky person so I knew it was the right choice. The flooring is contemporary, it is a brownish medium auburn multicolor laminate, it grounded my great room and really changed the look of the layout of my home. It was installed in 4 rooms the pictures are of the great room. I wanted to show as many photos as possible to help people with this laminate flooring. Also I recommend using a 3 in 1 underlayment don't cheap out on this it will really cushion the floor and help with sound in the room I have two story great room... trust me on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great look, great product, slightly tricky install Installed 700 s.f. of RIO BRAZILIAN WALNUT flooring and love most everything about it- looks great, AMAZINGLY tough and scratch resistant finish, fantastic value. Only niggling complaint is the install. Having done 3 or 4 laminate floors before, I'm hardly a novice, but I ruined the first four pieces I tried to tap into place due to the tightness of the click-joints on the ends. I finally took to shaving a paper-thin ribbon of material off one side of the joints, and after that things went great. Joints still lock tight and never slip, and I even tested the water tightness on some scrap piece joints-- no swelling or bubbling like on some cheap laminate I've seen. Make sure you source the special transition strips needed to complete the job: these are NOT available as a stocked item at HD but need to be ordered instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Floor looks way better than the Carpet! Ordered the floor online because we liked the color and discounted price. Flooring showed up when they said it would, received notice that it was at the store and ready to pick up. Color looked even better live than the photo. We had the floor installed in 2 14'X11' rooms and it only took them 3 hours. Only issue was I couldn't find the exact same T-Molding but was able to find a close match. Overall, I am very happy with the whole experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good flooring for the price, once you ge tthe hang of it It takes a few lines to get the hang of clicking this stuff together to get a tight link, but it looks pretty decent once you get it together. It looks fine, especially for the price. Make sure you get an installation kit (tapping block, bar, etc) - it'll make the job much easier!
