The shade broke just trying to put it together. John Deere parts rep said he could not sell me just the fiberglass bar. So I would have to buy another he actually suggested! I never got to use it!! I feel completely ripped off. I followed the directions and used proper tools.
Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake buying a JD if this is the type of support Im going to get and if their accessories fail while assembling them!
HomeDepot would not take it back because I had gone past their return period, but I live six hours away and only visit Denver 4-5 times a year.

At step #1 The frame supplied with the canopy was flawed. 2 welded brackets noted as (Support Bracket D) left hand and right hand where not manufactured correctly. The left hand bracket engaged into upper rear support but the right hand bracket was 3/8" off from engaging. The next issue was the final assembly. The adapter plug (G) That mounts the front poles to the machine did not tight up to hold the poles in place. The issue here is the clear insulator was too small for the adapter to hold it. DO NOT PURCHASE IT

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by MyEsoteric It's a nice idea but ...
My second one broke on about the third use, victim to a low hanging branch. Now I hope parts are available to fix the damage.
The first one bit the dust because the front mounts kept unseating and finally it was not repairable. This last one had a much improved from mount. The instructions that came with it left a lot to the imagination.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by zboyboy Quality is less than expected
Easy to assemble but the quality is not what I expected from John Deere. front rods disconnect while riding the mower, canopy is not long enough on sides or front to block sun. Materials of construction are cheap and I do not expect it to last more than one season

I've been using these canopies for many years so assembling it wasn't too tough. I can see where if this was your first one, assembly might be tricky.
They've improved the connection method where the struts attach to the hood of the tractor, so that's a plus. This will keep the struts from flying out on bumpy terrain or when you graze a low branch.
Once assembled and installed, you must be very careful of low-hanging branches, swing sets, etc. that might hit this canopy as you mow by. The fiberglass struts are thin and WILL fracture and/or break if stressed much at all.
Also, it mounts relatively high over your head so if the sun isn't at high noon, you will not always be well shaded. I had forgotten that I shortened both the fiberglass struts as well as the metal posts that mount to the rear to "chop the top" and lower the canopy by about 4" which provided better shade (a task not for the meek).
If you're careful or don't have any trees, etc in your yard, this is a nice addition to your mower on hot, sunny days.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Susan Easy to install and helps to provide protection from the sun.
My overall shipping experience with this product was poor. I did receive a tracking number within two days of ordering this product, but after trying for six days of "tracking information on this product cannot be found," I called customer service. I was told that the shipping label had been made but had not been placed on the item. It was frustrating not knowing when it was going to arrive, where it was coming from, etc - all the while knowing the package was ready but just needed the label on it. It did miraculously arrive the next week. It would have made it much easier if I was given a tracking number when it was actually able to track.
