Answer:
I don't know what the official weight allowance is reported to be, but at our house we have a couple hefty adults that sit on it all the time.
It feels quite sturdy considering it's only plastic. It's made of polypropylene resin (made from recycled materials).

It wouldn't do a very good job buy its self. You would need to line it with a tarp or something. This box is not water tight or air tight like a cooler or fridge.

The box for this model is about 65" long, 8" high, and 30" wide. It might just fit in your sedan if you slide it in from the trunk and all the way to the back of the front seats. It would help if you also moved the front passenger seat all the way up to create more space. It depends upon the size of your car and how you put it in. The deck box itself requires assembly so the box that it comes in is relatively flat. Answer:
This is only a guess, but I think the flat box it comes packed in is about 60" long, 30-32" wide and about 4 inches thick. You would have to see if that would fit in a back seat and if it would go through the door. I picked it up in a Ford F-150 Crew Cab, which has a 5-foot bed and it pretty much used up the length of the bed.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 294 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent box So this is the second one I purchased. The original is probably 5-7 years old and both hydraulic arms that control the top broke. One of them never worked correctly. The other negative is that it fades pretty fast in direct sun. I purchased 2 cans of rustoleum paint for plastic to restore it. The new box is pretty much the same but they redesigned the arms and they look much better and sturdier. I paid $140 which I still think is a lot for essentially a plastic box. One thing that was a head scratcher, when I opened the box to assemble there were NO directions lol.. I guess inspector 12 missed that so I had to work through it. We'll see how this one holds up. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Deck Box for balcony The unit was easy to put together and all the parts fit well. I had no problem doing it by myself. It's large enough to hold two folding chairs, four cushions and an umbrella for my balcony table with room to spare for additional items. Despite a heavy blowing rain we had the other day everything stayed dry. It turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be so I am quite satisfied. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, High Quality Deck Box This deck box is the best I've seen. I needed to replace a prior Suncast deck box that broke after ~18 months. I found this model and while it costs more than the one I was replacing, I could tell immediately that it was of higher quality. Assembly was very easy and everything went together perfectly. In addition, the look of the material is better than any other deck box I've seen. Not to mention that it has a 2 year warranty which gives me piece of mind that it will last. I would highly recommend. August 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice deck box Box is nice size, pretty simple to put together for one person, easy to open and shut. Only surprise for me was that the color is very dark brown,,almost black. August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by solid and useful Sturdy, easy set up for anyone- less than 30 minutes even for the project challenged. Good size to store bulky items. My only issue on these items, it's blow mold plastic why so pricey? I did like it enough to buy the second one though. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Needed Storage Needed something to store cushions on deck. This holds a lot and contents stayed dry even in extreme weather conditions. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Will work great for storing pool/deck items I searched a lot of websites after seeing this on a Costco email. Home Depots price was the best to be found. Really pretty easy to assemble with only 1 minor snag. Had it put together within 15 minutes of taking it out of the box and that was by myself. It would have been handy and slightly quicker to have a helping hand. The bottom sits off the ground slightly and it looks to be pretty water resistant. If there's water on the lid when you open it, some of the water does trickle in. I also like that the lid will stay open due to the (trying to find the right word!) hydraulic pistons. It is sturdy enough for 2 or even 3 people to sit on and will serve a variety of uses besides storage. Like acting as either extra seating or like a small table that you can use to set out food and drinks. Great buy. I'm very pleased and may get another one soon. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not so much I've returned two of these boxes. BOTH were damaged. It's a shame really because it was the perfect size for us. Oh well, off to Lowe's I go. August 17, 2016
