i am a home owner and has the concern - Does this product allow rain water to go through the soil (water permeable) easily if it is installed in the garden around trees trunks and planting area? Because the product description does not describe with "let air and water through" except it works excellent under any hardscape like patio, walkway and pavers. Please clear my concern - this is a wrong product for my garden. Thanks. Grace
Asked by: grace
yes, water does go through. It depends on what material is covering the fabric, and the amount of rainwater, but in general water will penetrate the fabric.

What mil is this fabric?
Asked by: tcgraphx
I'm unable to mic this fabric and the thickness is not defined on the label. I can tell you, it's about .50 mil, its definitely thicker than heavy weight garbage bags. Hope this helps.

4 ft. x 200 ft. Commercial Weed Control Fabric is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Fabric I have tried many brands of landscape fabric for my gardens in the past, and this one by far, beats them all. The fabric is very firm and solid, no weeds or pesky creatures will be coming up through this fabric. Plus, it's a very generous roll. One will do it for my gardening needs. My gardening style is different from most in my neck of the woods. I plant vertical and in Home Depot Fabric pots that range from 1 gallon to 300 gallon sizes and I fill with good potting soil from the greenhouse. This provides me a clean maintenance free garden that produces enough harvest to last through the winter. Thanks Home Depot for another home run product for my gardens!

The next day when my rock came, I had to re-pin some areas as the breeze made the pins rip right through the fabric. However, when I put the rock onto the fabric, it seemed to hold up well without tearing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weed be lying if we didn't say this was good... Silly puns aside, I've used a variety of landscape fabrics over the years (DIYer backyard landscaper) and I've made the mistake in the past of using cheap products with the results you'd expect. I've been using this material for my last couple of projects and I haven't been disappointed in the results thus far. Some of my experiences in general and with this product specifically are as follows: - I've seen a couple of comments stating that this product rips easily - I'm a big guy, but it's no easy task for me to rip this by hand - I think they must be commenting on another product by mistake. - This product works well, but it's not a miracle-worker. I've found that if I use it as the underlayment for a stone motif (see pictures), I get almost no weeds. However, if I use it for mulch, I will get more weeds (not a ton, but more). Basically the difference in weed volume (IMO) is that the additional weeds are growing on top of the fabric rather than coming up through the fabric due to mulch being more conducive to weed growth (retains moisture, more fertile). Weed roots are notorious for being able to find their way through almost any surface so I'm not going to ding the fabric for that. - I've found this product to be very durable - I have installations from a couple of years ago where the fabric has maintained its integrity and appears to have many years of life left in it. - Value - this is a tougher one as it's not cheap, but I guess the trade-off I've thought about is how much work it is to redo a landscape project. I still didn't rate it 5 stars on value as there may be products that work as well, but are cheaper. All in all, I've been very happy with it and will likely continue to use it in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage! Bought about 8 rolls of this product. Supposed to be good for 15 years. After less than 15 days, I had no less than 15 weeds that popped up. I removed the tons of rock I had put down and in every instance where a weed came up, it was NOT in a spot where I had overlapped the fabric. Came up directly though the product. Guess I better stock up on Round Up cause I'm going to need it because this product didn't cut the mustard.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money. I spent over 600 in landscaping rocks and used this stuff underneath. I am very picky so I made sure to leave no gaps or anything. I chose this because it was the most expensive figuring that would mean quality, and based on what the associate said. However, after a few weeks weeds are beginning to come through the fabric. So next spring I will be buying a fabric through a landscape dealer instead of home depot. I was very disappointed that HD would sell such a lousy product. Sure I could get my money back, but what about the time to remove all of the rock, replace, and reinstall. Very frustrating, and I am now triple checking any time I buy anything from HD.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from less than worthless I waited a year before reviewing this. Unfortunately, weeds are coming up right through it. Everywhere! It was a lot of work doing this job, and it was all for nothing. Perhaps if one were to use two layers it would help. I'm not looking forward to doing it again. In another area, I used REAL contractor grade heavy, woven black weed cloth. It is working fine.
