Answer:
The short answer is No, it is not as quiet as they advertise...but it has a pleasant "white noise". We actually buy these fans specifically for their "white noise" and use them for sleeping. We sleep with it on the highest setting to drown out traffic noises and dogs. It pushes a lot of air and is great for air circulation and cooling. We've bought 4 of them over the years and won't buy any other fan.

No, not particularly noisy. You have to expect some noise. I don't think you would have to turn your tv up to hear it when the fan it set to low.

Answer:
The lower setting is relatively quiet -- we leave it at that speed most of the time. Higher speeds do get quite a bit louder. Also depends on where it is in relation to yourself. Ours is mounted in a window to pull in fresh air.

i believe this fan, like many others, have a TILT OVER safety feature which is intended to shut the fan motor down should the fan fall flat, front or backwards. pull it up online and see if this safety feature is listed. My old fan had this feature. If it does not have tilt over protection, it would run lying flat but I suspect this is not desirable and could lead to bearing failure and/or motor overheating, fire, etc. I had similar problems with another house I owned and simply set the fan in its intended upright position in the crawl space and let er fly. I will tell you that once crawl space gets wet/damp, it is almost impossible to ever dry it out. Read Less

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 375 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good air movement Cheap plastic fan. Good air mover. However nowhere on the box or stickers inside does it say that it is 2500cfm. 2500cfm is a LOT and at its max 3 speed it does not feel like 2500cfm. I have an 850cfm kitchen range hood and I can feel the air pulled in from an open window when the hood fan is running on full speed. I setup the box fan on a 2nd floor window to push air outside. Closed all other windows and opened one on the first floor and ran the fan on full speed. It certainly did not feel more than breeze caused by the hood fan. At best it is probably around 600 or 700cfm. Having said that, a couple of these fans are a great cheap whole house fan solution! Position a couple of these on 2nd floor windows to push air outside and open a few windows on the 1st floor. Run the fans depending on the volume of space you want to cool. 30-60 minutes should cool any volume. May 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Fan Excellent performing, quiet fan. Would purchase again. May 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Whatever? I purchased 2 box fans. They served the purpose for which they were intended. The noise level on high is excessive. But they do move the air. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Use them for paint drying/air circulation on the job. Inexpensive and surprisingly durable even in dusty job site application. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Surprisingly good quality The box fan works to our satisfaction. Price and performance led to this conclusion April 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by These fans brake very easy I bought 3 fans before summer last year, but by the time summer arrived, some parts of one of the fans were broken. I bought this type of fans before and they use to last at least one summer, but the last time, they didn't last even for the hot weather. The quality of the material has been reduced significantly. April 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fan is a great value!!! 1st things 1st....I have purchased 10 of these box fans over the last 2 years. I would recommend this fan for the Price and as long as they stay on the ground they are great. Although if you give this fan to a person(employee) and it falls off a table or a trash can(somwhere between 28" and 40" off the ground) the blades on the inside of the safty grate break off at the seam like a rotten twing. In the buniness we refer to this as "U.E." or "User Error." sooooo, other than that, these are great fans for moving air. Enjoy. I have seen this happen twice now. I need to switch to another type of fan. September 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality fan I bought this fan to replace a similar one of a different brand that broke after it was knocked over (still not sure why that would have caused it to not work anymore). The layout of my apartment is such that a lot of dead air gets stuck in areas further away from the windows so having a box fan is the only effective way to push air around. I ordered this fan online on Monday and it came on Wednesday! Very prompt and no hassle whatsoever (the package tracking worked very well). It's not the quietest fan although not so bad on the lowest setting, which creates plenty of airflow. On the highest setting it could remind you of a small airplane, but for my purposes there's no need to go to that setting anyway so all is good. It's a product of excellent value. September 23, 2015
