Answer:
On low, this is the loudest house fan I have ever heard! Unbelievable! Higher settings are more in the ballpark of other fans. But do not count on low being quiet at all! I returned mine.

Answer:
The short answer is No, it is not as quiet as they advertise...but it has a pleasant "white noise". We actually buy these fans specifically for their "white noise" and use them for sleeping. We sleep with it on the highest setting to drown out traffic noises and dogs. It pushes a lot of air and is great for air circulation and cooling. We've bought 4 of them over the years and won't buy any other fan.

No, not particularly noisy. You have to expect some noise. I don't think you would have to turn your tv up to hear it when the fan it set to low.

Answer:
The lower setting is relatively quiet -- we leave it at that speed most of the time. Higher speeds do get quite a bit louder. Also depends on where it is in relation to yourself. Ours is mounted in a window to pull in fresh air.

i believe this fan, like many others, have a TILT OVER safety feature which is intended to shut the fan motor down should the fan fall flat, front or backwards. pull it up online and see if this safety feature is listed. My old fan had this feature. If it does not have tilt over protection, it would run lying flat but I suspect this is not desirable and could lead to bearing failure and/or motor overheating, fire, etc. I had similar problems with another house I owned and simply set the fan in its intended upright position in the crawl space and let er fly. I will tell you that once crawl space gets wet/damp, it is almost impossible to ever dry it out. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 438 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Fans I got these two box fans along with two Lasko16 in. Oscillating Stand Fans. I left the front guards off of these also and there is more air flow. I put two boards across the opening to my attic and laid one fan on there to pull the hot air up and out of the house, which also helps to cut down on some of the heat in the attic. (No I am not a rich person who has $5,000.00+ just sitting around to pay for central air; and the electricity to run that would be prohibitive.) These are also made of all plastic, so again, I don't think they will last long. With a little care, I do expect them to last for at least five years. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Buy! Great window fan! Quality seems good especially for the price. Simple to use and does a great job of moving air in, or out, of rooms. I have three of these and have used them in both windows and as floor fans to move air from a room with an air conditioner to two adjoining rooms that do not have ac. August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by needed box fan for exhaust Light weight and works well to circulate air out the window. August 19, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lasko Box Fan Nice hum to it, not too loud it is perfect for sleep. Great amount of power, the kids love theirs. August 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It gets the job done We use this fan to direct our air-conditioned air, from our family room, into our 3 season room. It keeps our 3 season room cooler and drier. It works like a charm. I wish it had sturdier leg brackets. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product This was a great product for those hot days in Northern Michigan. I would definitely purchase from Home Depot again. August 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A decent, powerful fan. Well, this one certainly is NOT under powered, by any stretch. It has 3 settings, 3 (high), 2 (medium), and 1 (low). The 1 (low), would at least be a medium, if not a higher setting, on most fans, as the fan is powerful, and moves a lot of air, but ya', is loud, as others have indicated (on high, it sounds almost like a small aircraft's engines warming up for take off, :). That said, the fan is great for what I use it for, which is blowing cold air into the house, during Summer mornings and evenings. It's also good for any task, where you'd want to blow air, in order to dry something out. For the price, it's a good fan, but if you're looking for a quiet one, keep looking. July 5, 2016
