Love this switch. For the price it's a great deal for all it does. And it looks great too.

I recently replaced an old chandelier in the breakfast area of our kitchen with a ceiling fan that had been sitting, unopened, in the garage for 8 years. The chandelier had the basic 3 wire switch - hot, common and ground. No 4th wire to separate switch the fan and it's light.
The fan and light each had their own chain on/off controls but I didn't like to chains hanging down above the breakfast table and I wanted to be able to switch them individually from the wall as well as dim the light without affecting the fan.
Solution: the Lutron Maestro Combination Fan and Light Control. It consists of a control unit that mounts inside the fan dome as it is installed and a switch that communicates with it mounted on the wall.
Assuming that you know how to wire a ceiling fan, installation is easy. Clear instructions are included and I went to the Lutron website and downloaded a PDF version of them as well. Also, Lutron has an excellent installation video for this unit on YouTube. The video really helped this DIYer!
Functionally, there are separate on/off switches for fan and light and each of those have 7 different adjustment levels. So you get a 7 speed fan and 7 light brightness settings. Both remember the setting when switched off and restore the setting when turned back on.
The wall switch fit perfectly in the single box previously used by the chandelier switch, however the face plate was difficult to detach from the switch when unpacking it. There probably is a technique to detaching it but the instructions don't let you in on the secret.
Lutron products tend to be a little pricy and this is no exception but its a whole lot easier than running another wire from ceiling to wall switch! Also, I personally think the appearance of the wall switch is a little plain but all in all this is a great solution to ceiling fan switching!

This was easy to install. Just remember to hook up the fan completely, set your speed and then install this new controller.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JONNY1 well worth the money-modern technology pays
state of the art in switches and easy to use and install,. With little effort, the light goes to one of seven predetermined settings and the same for the fan. One touch changes the setting up or down and on or off. Great product. Converted me to Lutron and works well with my 1987-88 Hunter Original Ceiling fans.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CeilingFanMan Make sure your fan motor is 1 amp or less
As other people have said, this is a great, quality, and COOL light and fan 7 speed dimmer in one. When you hit the light dimmer, it gradually increases the light from low to high (for example) over about 2-3 seconds which is a very classy effect.
I just want to add one caution. Make sure that your fan motor is either 1 amp or LESS. If your fan motor is over 1 amp, the motor will hum. Trying to diagnose ceiling fan motor "hums" are extremely annoying and waste a lot of time and resources (especially if you are hiring someone to install your ceiling fan).
Typical boxes of ceiling fans and online specifications do NOT list the level of motor amp. If you go to the store, you can ask an associate to cut open the box. On the fan motor there should be a sticker that lists various specifications, including the motor amp level. The sticker is present on Hunter brand ceiling fans for sure.
I am sharing this because I bought a hunter fan and the amp turned out to be 1.62 amp. I had to take down, return the fan, then buy another fan that had .89 amp motor. The fan does not have a hum. I hope this advice helps.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a wall switch dimmer for their fan and ceiling fan lighting. Very classy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bradyj Great Product
What a cool product. I had only one light switch for the fan and lights in my master bedroom and wanted 2 without rewiring. And I wanted a switch that looked like a switch and not a rubber button like on my coffee maker or had knobs that could break off. This did the trick. Works very well. From reading other reviews I was worried about the buzz from the switch. After installing the product I had the buzz as well. It is NOT the product. It was the CFL light bulbs I had installed. You MUST have the CFLs that dim to use this product (and all other products like this). I am really happy about this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Freddy Great control and lights up for finding in the dark.
The controls worked better than I thought they would. Our house has the normal 2 wires going to the light and fan, The ease of use is fantastic and going from 3 speed to 7 speed is great.
