Watermelon All Sweet Large, oval fruits 25-30 lb. have very sweet flesh. Holds up very well in the field without becoming overripe. Watermelons are easy to grow and have few requirements; full sun, plenty of water and warm temperatures.

- Planting: Watermelons are a warm season crop, choose a warm and sunny location, preferably south facing, add ½ cup of bone meal to each foot of row at planting time
- Seeds may be started indoors and transplanted into the garden
- Care: Thin when plants touch each other, it is helpful to cover the ground with black plastic mulch after thinning or cover with an organic mulch
- Harvest: Check the color of the surface touching the ground, as the melon matures the ‘ground spot’ turns slightly yellow, also watermelons lose their slick surface and become dull when ripe
