Product Overview

Chiaro is a natural stone travertine that illustrates a rustic "old world" charm. Perfect for today's casual lifestyle. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, chiaro can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout. This particular travertine is suitable for residential and commercial installations, including kitchens and bathrooms. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Individual tiles or a Sheet?

Is this individual tiles, or is it a sheet on mesh backing? If it's individual, and 8 come in a case (which is 1 sq. ft) how do 8 - 3x6 tiles make up a square foot? I am trying to determine how much to order, and I've gotten 3 different responses from 3 different people.

I want to install this tile in my kitchen but I am concerned at how hard it would be to clean behind the sink. Will debris wipe off easily?

Asked by: Angie
I don't think I would use it in a Kitchen if you are a messy cook like me, but with three coats of sealer it shouldn't be too bad to clean up, although mine is in the master bath which stays pretty clean and dry

type of grout

what type of grout is better with this tile, sanded or unsanded, and what colors of the grout would you recommend for the tile color to stand out? I like the color of the grout in the product picture, what color is it?
Asked by: PTCruiser
It seems to depend on the width of your grout lines: For grout lines 1/8" to 1/2," use sanded, for lines 1/8" to 1/16," use unsanded. Our grout lines were 1/4" wide and we used Polyblend's bone colored sanded grout with this tile. The grout was close enough to the color of the tile that it didn't matter as much if a little grout was left behind on the tiles here and there.

This was our first time doing a tiling project but we had a very good experience with this tile. Because it's rough and porous, it's very forgiving in regards to how flat (or not flat) your wall is. You must seal this tile before grouting (we used bone colored grout). We didn't because the instructions we were following were for ceramic or glass tiles, which I don't believe require that extra step. Again, because the tile has that "natural" look, in the end it was okay because a bit of haze here and there just made the tile look more "rustic." Overall, great tile for beginners, as it hides a lot of flaws and mistakes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice for the price Enormous variation in appearance made it necessary to scramble and mix tiles from different packages. Choose the grout color carefully, as it will be a major part of the finished look. We chose antique white grout, sanded. The fossilized corals that are visible in many of the tiles adds great visual interest to our backsplash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very beautiful tile, especially for the price. I would definitely recommend this tile, however you have to like the tumbled tile look. The tile has lots of holes and character. Holes fill in with grout and look good when finished. If you like DIY projects this product is easy to work with. Make sure you seal tile before grouting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous! I was shocked at how gorgeous these stones are for such a modest price. They have a lot of natural texture and color variation, which I love. We used these for our backsplash and we actually chose not to grout them, so as not to fill in all of the craters and crevasses that give them such a unique character. Instead, we just stacked them and sealed the whole thing with a stone sealer at the end. The results are beautiful and we couldn't be happier!! Here is a picture shown with our Venetian Gold granite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GORGEOUS!!!! I have always loved the look of authentic stone back splash especially with cream colored cabinets. so when we planned our remodel I knew exactly what I wanted. I saw these and Jeffrey court ones and my contractor ended up getting these. They were absolutely gorgeous before and after installation. I love the rustic look of the bricks and that they have holes. it adds so much character!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price! The tile was great for a first time tiler. The uneven stone, color and variations in texture made it more forgiving/less noticeable when mistakes were made. I do suggest opening at least 3-4 packages in advance of tiling to mix the color variations. I also sealed 3 times before I grouted and used a sanded grout in a Linen color. I picked Linen because of a review I read but wish I would have chosen a Bone or Alabaster as I think it would have highlighted the colors and textures of the tiles better. Note that the tile is super dusty and it worried me that even after sealing it was still dusty. However, after grouting the dust went away. This tile is very inexpensive. I think all of the other supplies cost more money than the actual tile. Many people complained about broken tiles but I don’t think I had one broken tile in any of the 33 packs bought. I did have trouble returning the leftover tiles. It took one frustrating visit to Home Depot then two follow up calls. After about a week I got confirmation that the credit was going to go through. The money still is not in my bank account yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT! WAY easier to work with then I thought, grout filled in all the holes on some of the tiles I was afraid to use. Looks awesome and if given the change to start over, I would have use the same tile
