Product Overview

Grecian white is a natural stone marble that illustrates a classical romance. Smooth polished surface of this tile has trendy soft white tones that exude chic elegance. With a large selection of sizes and accessories to choose from, Grecian white can easily be laid in a pattern or single layout. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

Tile surface darkened after our installer originally put in the tile...

This tile is so porous, it looks like the adhesive the installer used, while still wet, is showing through the surface of the tile turning the color to a darker gray. We are letting it sit a day or so, with a fan on it, to see if the color will lighten again before he grouts the tile. He is hoping the moisture will come out through the grout lines, dry the adhesive, and the tile color will return to the lighter gray. Is this likely? Any suggestions?

Hi HomeRemodeler. I have quite a bit of experience with this marble. I know you're looking at the marble right now and you're worried.

Hi HomeRemodeler. I have quite a bit of experience with this marble. I know you're looking at the marble right now and you're worried.
First of all, did the installer use WHITE mortar to install this? If he didn't, he's made a very basic installation mistake and needs to redo his work. I really, really hope that's not the case, although I've seen it happen once or twice.
Second, if it's a wall installation, did he "five-spot" it? When installing wall tile, many installers dot the back of the tile with mortar in five or nine places and push it into place as an easy way to keep tiles level across a wall. This is a no-no with porous, translucent stone. and you need to make sure it didn't happen here. In a proper installation, the entire back of the marble tile must be covered with a thin layer of mortar ("back-buttered" or "back-burned"). I have unfortunately seen spotted installations fail a number of times.
Assuming that you're OK on these two things, you're fine. Yes, the marble (and all white marble) is slightly porous and will darken a bit when first installed. The gray tones will darken far more than the white tones. It will take two days or so for the grays in the marble to return to their original color. Even if you grout it now, you'll be OK sooner or later, but leaving the grout off for a few days is wise. If you're using a regular cement-based grout for this, the edges will darken again a bit and will take a day or two to lighten up again.
Once you're done, you've got to seal the whole installation, and seal it well, to prevent these changes from happening again whenever the marble gets wet. I always recommend Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator Sealer for this. Use three coats on the grout.
I'm glad this didn't happen to you with color-changing granite tile, where the difference between wet and dry tile can be much more dramatic and nerve-wracking. But your installer really should have known that this would happen with this tile and should have warned you beforehand that this would happen. Read Less

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 109 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Look! I wish I could tell you how the install went, but I had my contractor install it. At first I thought he wasn't using a consistent amount of mortar because the tiles were at varying depths. Turns out the tiles are not exactly the same... But I love the look! October 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking, be aware of variation This is a good product if you know what you are getting. There is A LOT of variation in the color, size and thickness of the product. The color ranges from flawlessly white to yellow to gray to green, with a few blue and purple hues. There are also many beautiful natural variations one would expect in stone--flecks of gold and black and green and blue. If you are looking for white only, this is not your product. The variation in size is a little more frustrating and more what you would expect with a budget product. There is at least a 4mm variation between the smallest and largest widths, lengths and thicknesses. DIY beginners will find installation of this product challenging. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality Tiles in Greys/Whites/Light Browns The variegation of the marble tile colors is muted and natural. We used all Home Depot ordered/bought products for this complete BA redo (expect the mirror and toilet - existing). The wall 3x6 tiles were substantial in weight so we used extra adhesive thinset for them on the shower ceiling that was slanted up. The Home Depot Carrara White 12x24 pieces complemented the 3x6 wall tiles nicely. The HD marble pencil trim and chair rail also worked well. Delivery for over 1000 lbs of ordered materials was only $100, and right inside the garage. Returning extras to the local HD store was a small hiccup--3 times the RTV software (return to vendor) was not working so I got store credit instead of a credit card refund. Other returns for store bought items went without a glitch--but the online returns always took more time, sometimes I got my credit card refunded and this last time, not. Online returns apparently relies on a computer system that has issues. Just beware. May 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good choice I had originally picked a herringbone pattern (just as great of a choice) but it was out of my league for using a tile cutter so I ended up choosing this for a subway tile pattern in my kitchen. It looks great next to the newly painted white cabinets and grey walls. No piece looks like the other so there's no spot that overshadows another. 8 comes in a box so it's also highly affordable and well worth the money. September 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality, many broken on chipped Many broken pieces in each box, many plain white or grey. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grecian White in Herringbone for Kitchen I love the finished product of our Grecian White tiles and wanted to share what it looked like in a herringbone pattern. While we did not care to go through 40+ boxes of tiles to get our preferred veining, we had our contractor spread out the different colors over the area so nothing is too concentrated, and we love the variation. While I can't comment on the ease of installation, my contractor says it was a little painful because of the nature of the natural stone product, not all of the tiles are the same size which makes for difficulty with grout lines, placement, etc. March 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not white ...and a disaster Ordered these for my holiday home in the Bahamas ...wanted as white a tile as possible. Whilst accepting that being a natural stone the colour would not be consistent, what my contractor received was rubbish and having imported etc. I now have to live with a grey shower....apart from the fact that quite a number were broken ...again we had allowed and accepted a certain rate of failure but the extent was significant. It seems as if because we are not in a position to send back someone deliberately included as many grey tiles as they could....maybe to reduce the stock of those that people generally don't want. Very unhappy with tile and extremely unhappy with the Home Depot online service. The pictures are totally inaccurate in my case - a costly and very disappointing renovation thanks to this. Don't order anything online ...go to a store and check everything before you buy. Waste of time and money. September 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stunning!!!! We purchased this tile for our new master bathroom. Jason at Home Depot was absolutely amazing. The end product is INCREDIBLE! The downside is you have to hand select each tile. We purchased 120 boxes sorted through the colors we wanted and then laid them all out to get a feel of how the colors would work together. I wanted more gray than white or gold so I focused more on the gray tiles. We used the delorean gray grout. I am including a few pics. We also purchased the floor tile from Home Depot too. I truly can't say enough about our experience and the product. Truly stunning! July 6, 2014
