Answer:
As a veteran of microwave oven products, I would say definitely no, popping and frying sounds are not part of the operation of a microwave. Sounds like you might have an electrical component arcing and possible shorting out components of your oven.
You should stop using the microwave and have a service call on the machine.

Answer:
Yes, provided as the owner's manual states:" leave a 4 in. space between the sides, top, and rear to adjacent surfaces to allow for proper ventilation". If you don't do this the unit may overheat and get damaged.

Answer:
Basically, no. There are no available mounting holes. Modifying a microwave for that purpose is probably dangerous, you would be obstructing the air vents.

I don't think so. I owned another Magic Chef micro for 12 years, and the : blinked always on that one also. My new one, Model number MCM990ST still blinks (just set the clock recently).

The PDF manual says the depth from front to back is 16.1", and the specs say it is 14.6". I have a 15" deep microwave shelf, and am wondering if this unit will fit. Thank you!

I'm the original poster of this question, and it did, indeed fit, even with the receptacle outlet in the same cabinet as the microwave. I posted a photo of the empty cabinet, and another photo with the microwave in place.

It's actually 14.6 in front to back - back has a black plastic spacer for minimum spacing for micro air cooling in back. So it may fit in your cabinet depending on where your electrical plug-in receptacle is located. If your receptacle is right behind the micro, it probably won't fit due to the micro's power cord plug sticking out of the receptacle ... about 2 in...in that case you would need 16.6 in. Read More

Answer:
The best thing to do is go to the srore and measure a unit. You ought to allow about 3" space in the back. If the unit needs a shelf deeper than 15", you could attach a piece of plywood or similar to your shelf.
If you buy a unit, test whether lifting the door straight up when the door is closed will turn the oven on. You might be able to raise the door a millimeter or so. Mine had that problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very good deal this microwave is a little small and the finish accumulates fingerprints but all in all it's a great product. I also don't like the way the door shuts..there's no handle and you pretty much have to slam it and it's noisey. August 9, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This Model failed after 7 months Purchased Magic Chef Model MCM990ST on 11/10/15 based on reviews. It work fine until 05/20/16 when it started making grinding noises when running. Features give a 4 based on the pushing of the button to start it was hard and the micro wave would slightly move We called Magic Chef customer service and had a positive experience. Instructions were Cut the cord send it back with appropriate paperwork and we would receive refund in 2 weeks. Based on this experience with Magic Chef we decided to give them another chance and purchased the 1.6 cubic foot 1100 with handle. Time will tell If this one goes the distance May 24, 2016
