Cannot rate ease of installation as I had it professionally installed. Looks great, nice sleek black plastic case. Got the belt drive unit. This unit replaced a 16 year old Genie screw drive which still worked but was getting very loud and had a tendency to drip grease onto the car parked below, especially during the summer when the garage gets very hot. Best features are the quiet operation, can hardly hear it work, and the built in LED lights. While the LED lights are not as bright as a couple of 60 watt bulbs in my old unit, the light is adequate and never having to replace bulbs is a big plus. I haven't had it for very long, but very pleased with the purchase and the HD installation.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DEstefan Silent but slow
The belt drive garage door opener was easy to install, took me about 3 hours all by myself.
Programming is really easy just follow the instructions and you'll be done in a couple of minutes.
The belt drive is very silent and smooth, but takes about twice as long to open/close the door compared my Genie garage door opener. That doesn't bother me at all, it's just a few seconds more. This one sure looks much more modern than the Genie, and the LED's should safe a little energy.
The one point that I have to criticize is the safety sensor mounting. They just get hooked into the sheet metal angles that you mount to the wall. They are supposed to stay in position, but don't. Unless you file the notches so that the hooks can actually hook in they will move and get out of alignment.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mastadruma Perfectly quiet and sturdy garage door opener
I just installed the new Marantec Synergy 270 Garage Door Opener. I am happy to report that this opener is significantly better than the unit that I had in my garage. The whisper quiet operation and the bright LED lights are greatly appreciated. Here are some details that may help you when choosing a new opener.
Ease of installation: Overall I found the directions/installation to be pretty straightforward, but it does require some basic home improvement skills. For instance I cut the wires leading to the motion control sensors and stripped them so they were shorter. This unit also does not come with brackets to hang it from the ceiling. I think the reasoning here is you can most likely re-use existing brackets from the last garage door opener. In my case I had to cut and fabricate angle iron from scratch, but again this was not rocket science. While I installed this by myself it would help to have a second person for a few steps.
Direction Clarification: The only step that gave me trouble was programming the outdoor key-pad. When the directions say to hold the remote close to the keypad it means as close as possible. I was a little over an inch a way the first several times I tried to program it and it didn't work until the remote was practically touching the key-pad.
Operation of Unit: While I can't speak to the longevity of the unit, it does appear to be made very well. It is definitely the quietest garage door opener I have ever heard. The parts are precision. The design is thoughtful and intelligent. The keypad and remotes are sturdy.
If you are a beginner, weekend warrior, or not quite mechanically inclined, maybe consider having a professional install this unit for you.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BiasedCoug Is it really working? So quiet!
Our last door opener was so noisy that we couldn't use it when we had people sleeping in the bedrooms above the garage. Shook the whole house. This is so quiet we have to turn and look after hitting the button to see if it is really working. Installation was fairly seamless. Not quite as easy as others had suggested, but with two people and a little re-reading of the instructions, we had no problems. Linking to cars, etc. was incredibly easy. We love this opener and even after a month of operation, we still are giddy about how quiet this thing is. (We oiled all the parts of the door itself, because we could hear squeaking that was drowned out by the previous opener.) My only negatives are slight and hardly worth mentioning. 1) The light is extremely dim. Love not having to ever change it (LED), but a nightlight is brighter. 2) The exterior punch pad is pretty cheap plastic. I'm sure somebody is going to close it wrong and bust it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by John Marantec is the worst company to deal with
If you want to get the run around just deal with customer service in Marantec they are real pros. They start off asking you questions and then just stall hoping you go away. Do yourself a favor and buy something from any other company.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Roger Stylish and very effective Garage door opener
Synergy 270 3/4 HP DC Motor Belt Drive Garage Door Opener installation is DIY friendly and the instructions are excellent. Programming is simple once you follow the documentation properly. Belt drive is very quite and smooth. No more clunkiness of the older garage opener is such a relief. I love the LED lights which provide ample illumination for its purpose. Once it is installed It looks very high-end and the functioning is smooth. It is Homelink compatible which makes the remotes obselete. Compact and well thought design will reduce maintenance (moving parts such as rails are enclosed) Overall a great environment friendly, high-end product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Verified Reviewer OVERALL SEEMS TO BE AN EXCELLENT OPENER
I bought this opener to replace an old Craftsman opener that was in my arage when I bought my house. The Craftsman broke down, so I researched some models and really liked everything that was included with this opener. As with other reviews, the instructions were a little general and could use more specific details. I am pretty good with figuring stuff out and it took a few hours to install everything, but it came out good. The opener is sleek-looking and extremely quiet and you can't even hear it is moving unless you see the door going up or down. The wiring was easy and programming was simple. The eye sensors lined up with ease and programming the keyring transmitters, interior wall control and exterior wireless entry systems worked like a charm and were very easy to program. Program everything after completely installing wall unit and eye sensors because I was just testing the system out and it let me know that the eye sensors were not correctly installed, so while the opener worked, I thought that the wall unit was broken. After installing the eye sensors, everything worked. Instructions advised as such, but since I really did not follow the directions word for word, it was understandable. The only negative is that the exterior wireless system looks a little cheap because it is a plastic, chrome-looking casing that I am sure will fade if installed in direct sunlight. Overall, I bought on sale and am satisfied with my purchase. Now time to clean out the garage...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by sacherjj OK, but some install issues.
The remote range is good. Keypad works well. Install for most parts was pretty standard for an opener. Only had one problem with install. Opening the track caused part of it to bend. I tried to straighten it, but it still isn't perfect. The track could use a support midway and I will probably add this.
See video for open and close speed. The squeaking is the old garage door that needs lubricated. It has been without a working opener for a while and isn't used to moving. The opener is as quiet as you would expect from a belt drive unit.
