Product Overview

The HYR451T combines two products that will increase your toilet's efficiency and save water and money. No more leaky flapper, tangled chains or handles that have to be jiggled. The Total Repair Dual Flush Valve quickly and easily converts a standard toilet into a two-handle, dual flush toilet. The short center lever is the Quick Flush setting that uses significantly lower water volumes for liquids and paper - the setting needed 4 out of 5 times. The second complete push lever at end is the Full Flush that uses the normal amount of water for solids. Designed for drop-in installation, the HYR451T can be installed in without tools and without having to remove the tank. The Total Repair Kit can be calibrated to adjust the exact amount of water needed and detects leaks.

  • Converts your toilet to a water-saving dual-flush design
  • Combines two products that together will increase your toilet's efficiency: HYR271 dual flush valve and HC630 HydroClean fill valve
  • Drop-in installation with no tools or tank removal needed

  • Detects leaks and signals when a leak is found

I have it front mounted, but see the picture attached to see what it looks like on the inside and outside. It has a handle that goes through the porcelain and tightens in place with the white box attached inside the tank.

Answer:
Yes, this should work on the side handle tanks as there is no chain involved, rather a control box and line which lead to the unit. You just have to be sure that the control line doesn't end up with a sharp bend or kink when installing as this may cause the system not to work

Earl,
That is the beauty of this converter. The flush handle is on a long cable and it will fit nicely on the side of the tank. It is a real plus on saving water. Hope you get one and you like it.

Answer:
It depends on the location of the inlet valve/float tower in relation to the flush handle hole in the tank.
The unit uses a flex cable that attaches to the back of the flush handle via an interface unit.. The other end connects to the flapper valve unit.
I measured the depth of the flex cable interface unit in my installation, and it's 1 13/16" deep. If you look at the illustration on page: Read More

I measured the depth of the flex cable interface unit in my installation, and it's 1 13/16" deep. If you look at the illustration on page: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-HydroKit-Toilet-Repair-with-Dual-Flush-Converter-HYR451T/202762847 you will see the handle interface unit at the lower end of the green flex cable.
It will all depend on where the flush handle hole is in the side of the tank. I think if you have 1 7/8" clearance between the inside tank wall and the inlet valve tower you'd be OK. Otherwise it may not fit. You'd also need to ensure that the (green) flex cable will reach from the handle to the flapper unit without kinking it.
As an aside, I have had this Hydrokit unit for some time now, and it is still working flawlessly. Read Less

Depending on what kind of model you have. It will not work for your Kholer if you have 3-in flush model. It just work for 2-in standard flush flapper.

I don't think it matters what brand of toilet you have. Unless there is some kind of funky set up other than the traditional flushing system inside the tank.

That is not the case, it must be pressed tight against the plastic fitting going through bottom of tank. What moves and acts as a valve is the white plastic disc inside the assembly.
Make sure you have the clamp (that goes around the vent pipe) as tight as can get it using the included tie wrap. Hold down on the entire unit and then pull the tie wrap tight, until entire flush assembly does not slip up or down. This ensures that the blue seal stay tight against the plastic seat it sits on top of. (Note: There is an excentric half round plastic shim you need to use to take up any play in pipe before clamping.)
This should eliminate any leaking, the blue seal needs to be 100 percent seated and not able to move upward for system to work. I have purchased several since I figured this out and all are working exceptionally well, I love the dual handle and option to use less water on some flushes. Read Less

Try resetting the device over the drain tube. Make sure the blue plug sits over the hole and there are no gaps. Move your finger around the edge to make sure that the blue plug and not bent.

See if you can readjust the levels on the kit. If that doesn't help, then you may have to get a whole new kit. I haven't had that problem that you describe.

This filler was noisier than the old style that came in my toilet originally. In my home it was not crazy loud though, but if you are an apartment dweller or sharing a wall directly behind a quiet area of your home, it may be a bit louder than you would like.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 180 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Universal I bought this due to the "universal" label on the box and I really wanted a no-nonsense repair kit where I wouldn't have to sort through pieces and make 3 trips to the store. When I got home, I made it halfway through the installation when I discovered that this unit IS NOT UNIVERSAL. The toilet I tried to install this on is a Mansfield model which has an entirely different flush valve than most toilets (see photo) The flush valve is a unique tower piece which sits directly over where the toilet flapper usually goes. This repair kit requires for there to be an offset pipe which supports the new flush valve. For a Mansfield toilet, you have to remove your entire flush valve and reinstall a new overflow pipe before you can install this kit. While this unit may work great, I can only write a review for the pieces I was able to install and the fact that the product has extremely misleading advertising. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product This product works very well, and is of very good quality. Installation was easy, and I also found the instructions to be easy to understand. When flushing the toilet it can be a little loud due to the pressure of the new system, but I would prefer my toilet to flush rather than not flush. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This Needs to be Clarified Please note, that while the description of this item says "no tools required," that's really only partially true. You can install this item pretty much without tools, HOWEVER... You will almost certainly need tools to remove the existing fill valve, etc. And that's no small thing. In fact getting the old stuff removed before installing this, was a MAJOR part of the job for the three toilets in my home, particularly in my case removing the coupling for the fill valve at the bottom on the tank. Took me at least a half-hour for each toilet! Now, that's not the fault of the manufacturer of this item, but it's something you need to know going in, that it's not like a five-minute job here. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dud! Doesn't work to flush well. Very difficult to instal. June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Misleading kit... This is not a total repair kit. It relies on the flush valve assembly of an existing installation (overflow tube, flush valve seat, flush valve gasket). In my case, this won't work because the flush valve gasket leaks and needs to be replaced; however, this kit doesn't include the necessary part. June 29, 2016
