Product Overview

The HYR451T combines two products that will increase your toilet's efficiency and save water and money. No leakier flapper, tangled chains or handles that have to be jiggled. The Total Repair Dual Flush Valve quickly and easily converts a standard toilet into a two-handle, dual flush toilet. The short center lever is the Quick Flush setting that uses significantly lower water volumes for liquids and paper - the setting needed 4 out of 5 times. The second complete push lever at end is the Full Flush that uses the normal amount of water for solids. Designed for drop-in installation, the HYR451T can be installed in without tools and without having to remove the tank. The Total Repair Kit can be calibrated to adjust the exact amount of water needed and detects leaks.

Customer Questions & Answers

Will this work on a side mount handle tank?

My toilet tank has a side mount handle not a front mount.
Asked by: Earl
The cable that connects the flush handle to the toilet flush valve is not adjustable but appears to be of a length that would accommodate a front or side mount handle.

Is the j tube included?

Asked by: Stephen14k
If you are referring to the fill tube, the answer is yes as the assembly that connects to the flush lever replaces the fill tube.

Half flushes itself about every hour

The unit makes a flushing noise where it half flushes itself about every hour. Is that normal for the unit?
Asked by: SS
On mine, I had two issues on two different toilets :). First issue (which I think is more common) was the overflow tube was worn and needed to be replaced. The tube had developed a crack near the bottom and the leak was coming from that. Easy way to tell if it's an issue with the Danco unit or the overflow tube is to remove the Danco unit and replace it temporarily with a conventional flapper. (another lesson, don't throw away the flapper that comes with a new overflow tube!) Fill the tank and let it sit for a while. If the slow leak/self-flushing continues, it's the overflow tube. Second issue (which is a design flaw in the Danco unit) was the coupling sliding about on the overflow tube. The coupling is made of smooth plastic so there's little friction. Check that the ziptie is still tight that holds the two sides of the coupling together and ensure the unit is well seated on the overflow tube orifice. The unit comes with a little plastic wedge you can place between the coupling and the overflow tube to try to tighten the fit, but that can move around too! (again smooth plastic). The unit also comes with a rubber gasket that you can put over the overflow tube to hold the coupling in place. That gasket doesn't fit many overflow tube (I've now used 3 different tube with this unit and only the cheapest overflow tubes worked with this). So you're better off with the wedge and a solid ziptie.

When I had an old American Standard toilet that needed a new flapper, I decided to give this dual flush valve a try. We were so pleased with the result I went and converted our second toilet as well. I have ours adjusted so that the small flush uses about 1/2 of what the full flush does. I've found that with the valve adjusted as I have it, a small flush will work for solids as well.

Only thing that didn't work like it said in the instructions was the float. In the instructions it says the top of the float needs to be above the overflow tube. This is not necessarily true, but you should try to get it as close as possible.

Overall was really happy with this product when I installed it 4 or 5 years ago. However, over time there have been problems. Biggest issue is the fill valve failed. It started developing issues approximately two years in, but I could ignore them. Then eventually it all broke. I replaced it with a Korky since I no longer trust the fill valves on these things. The other issue is the way the flush mechanism attaches to the tank fill tube. It uses a smooth plastic coupling that you need to zip tie in place. It comes with a wedge you can use if the fit is not tight enough. Well that's a disaster of a design. Because it's smooth plastic, there's no friction so everything moves. You have to zip tie it pretty tight to stop it moving around. When it starts to move, you get the dreaded tank flushing on it's own issue. It does generally work and it's better than a flapper and looks more legit than the competition, so based on that 3 stars and a recommendation, but you will end up fiddling with your toilet a little more than you'd like.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money. While it installed OK, it doesn't stay seated. Now it leaks and refills water tank every 10 minutes. No adjustments fix it. No one liked the flush mechanisms. Its been two years now and I wish I had not picked this unit. Go. Fish!.

Item didn't look clean or new but I had only a choice of two resealed packages and needed to replace Fluid Master with broken cable. I had used one of these to replace our first Fluid Master in another bathroom and it sealed OK. I don't know if it's the angled flow valve or just a bad unit, but my one good experience with Danco seems to be one more than many people had. Would not buy again. When I tire enough of turning water off I'll replace it with a regular flapper until I have time to change out toilet to a new, low water usage one.

Elongated ADA compliant toilet (Model 1384CTK) purchased from Menards but without the dual flush valve I thought I desired. While the installation was relatively simple, like some of the other reviews, the assembly that installs where the flapper would traditionally go would not align properly to avoid material leaking. I tried several combinations of shim (provided) placement but the assembly was still about 1/8 to 1/4 out of alignment. As a result, I uninstalled the assembly and will be returning it to Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Dual Flush upgrade I installed 2 of these on 2 of my toilets. They are very nice, there is adjustment on the flush volume for the main flush and the small flush. I also have installed the FluidMaster's dual flush kit, but it started to leak around the valve, and the toilet is refilling about every 20 mins. This Danco one does not leak (if you install it right). It is a little loud on refilling because newer kit doesn't have the small little "J hose" any more. I did cut a little bit off the blue hose to divert the refill port, and quite it down a lot.
