Answer:
Jake, this and all Nicholson files are made of high quality carbon steel. This steel along with Nichlson's file cutting process give the file sharp uniformed teeth for even cutting and a long life.

Nicholson files and rasps are always a good choice for those looking for a good product at an affordable price. While some argue that the quality of Nicholson products has dropped in recent years, I can only say that this file performed excellently for me in my shop. I primarily use this for sharpening card scrapers in my woodshop. It’s excellent to mill off the existing/worn burr on the scraper so I can then apply a new burr on a proper surface. It also comes in handy to clean up holes I drill through metal stock such as aluminum or steel. Knocking off sharp edges is a walk in the park. I’ve also used it one wood surfaces I’ve shaped with a rasp. The single cut file pattern makes a clean cut through the lumber and allows me to then move to sandpaper. I experienced normal clogging with the rasp when working with wood, which is to be expected in this case. A simple work-over with a brush cleaned the gullets out quickly so I was able to get back to work. I’m overall very pleased with the quality of the rasp for the usage it sees in my shop. I can’t speak for all of Nicholson’s rasps and files, but this one seems to be a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I buy these to tune skis with. For whatever reason the work much better than the brand sold by Lowe's. I only buy these now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from File This is a great file for a low price. I had some metal shower trim I had to install that needed to be rounded to fit my shower contour. I used a flat b****** file to shape the profile, and this file to smooth it out. Make sure you don't forget to buy the handle for it too!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what they used to be. I bought this new file because it was made by Nicholson, which in the past has made an excellent quality American file. I have many Nicholson files. This is the first one I've bought that was not made in the USA, and it really shows. It is not as sharp as my other good files, and shows many signs of cost cutting. A real shame, because they used to make an excellent file.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good stuff Whenever you need a good file, look for Nicholson and you'll be OK. Maybe there are better, but there are surely worse. This name has always worked.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good file These are good files and I recommend them for everyday use. I would like to see them just a bit flatter. I use them in engineering processes on stainless. All files except for expensive ones have a slight arc in them due to the tempering process. That arc can prevent you from using one side of the file. However at this day and time I believe the technology and processes are there to produce a flatter file for everyday use.
