Customer Questions & Answers

Does it need to be hooked up and the faucet on for it to work, or just batteries in, to turn on?

I inserted brand new batteries, 2 sets and the screen will not light up, even after pushing reset button and hoking up to faucet with water on. Second timer purchased.
Asked by: TIM
Once the schedule is set, you leave the faucet on. When the schedule calls for watering the internal valves will open allowing the watering to happen.

Under normal conditions how long should the battery last and how much is a new one?
Asked by: mike
Hi Mike, this uses two normal AA alkaline batteries. I'm thinking they should last a season easily. Take the batteries out though when you store it for winter - those same batteries should still be good for next season. You can get a jumbo pack of 18 batteries at the Home Depot for around $12 or get a 4 pack for under $5,

There is no "Water Now" slot to allow the immediate use. I have sometimes been able to do that but not always. The one I have has A, B, C but with only two outlets. Look for another device, this one is like the complicated guidance system that one pays a $1,000 for in a new car and sometimes works compared to a Garmin that works every time for $175....don't waste your money.

Store substituted this timer since they were out of stock on the one I ordered. Sounded like a good deal, and an upgrade. Sadly, they did not explain that the programming on this timer is a nightmare and the directions that came with it are pretty much useless. Went to the Orbit site and watched their video on how to program the timer. After two weeks I am still waiting to see if I got it right. Ordered two of the original ones from another source and they are so simple to program there is no comparison. Would return these, but it is 60 miles to the store. This timer did not even come close to my expectations and would recommend that it be avoided.

Both had the same problem they would not shut down after the cycle was complete. If you cant trust the watering system your always wondering when your away. I'm going to try a another model this time, I would have liked the 2 different zones, of well!

I bought it on a Saturday and it worked great that day. The next day my zone 1 came on right on schedule, but when I came out later when zone 2 had turned on I noticed both zones running. This is a problem since I don't have the pressure for both zones, hence the reason for the timer. I checked to make sure I had programmed it right and I had. I switched the dial to off and zone 1 still didn't shut off but zone 2 did. I'm leaving town for 2 1/2 weeks and can't afford to not know if it will work or not. Will be taking it back tonight and finding another solution.

I found this product easy to configure, however the reliability is sadly poor. I'm now on my third unit and none of them have worked properly. After a few weeks unit number 1 had a defect that wouldn't allow zone 1 to work. Unit number 2 would not shut either zones off after the programmed cycle, both zones would stay on. Out of the box, unit number 3 has one of the zones that won't turn off. Zone 2 will turn on and off properly, but zone 1 will not shut off. I have new grass seed and need to water the area 3 times a day, I didn't have the time to ship units back and forth, so I've been exchanging my units with the local store.

There was one thing that was not clear on the programing directions and I had to call tech support. It seems on the start time you have to push plus to make sure the box is shown around both zones on the start time. Another thing they did not make clear is zone 2 starts as soon as zone one is finished. However I am on a well so I had zones 1 and 2 run for an hour each and an hour later did the same giving time for the well to refill in between. The faucet timer and drip irrigation work so well. I get so much deeper moisture penetration than hand watering not to mention time saving.

Very difficult to program the second hose outlet (station 2).Too many wartering time options (A,B,C) for both stations. I should have purchased the single hose unit. Was on the phone with customer service for 1/2 hour getting it programmed. It still comes on twice a day instead of once and it stays on longer than programmed by over an hour. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can't figure it out, puzzled. Should have bought something simpler. The Orbit tripod sprinkler with 6 different spray options is Great! Best sprinkler ever. Fully adjustable with great spray patterns but their timer is too difficult to use.
