Can these be installed with Velcro?
Asked by: Preacher
I tried to install with velcro but it doesn't stick well to the panel. It DOES however stick on the impale clips it comes with! I used the 3M velcro strips. I actually mounted it to my ceiling.

Can these be cut? We would like to cut them into two triangles, as they are a better size than the pre-cut triangles.
Asked by: Rhonda
I think the panel can be cut, but cutting it would leave a fabric edge that could unravel or wrinkle.

Customer Reviews

Acoustic, Sound Absorbing Wall Panels 24 in. x 24 in. Square - Paintable (2-Pack) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look great, definitely helped Mounted these on my home office's hollow core door to help cut down on sound reflections. While they did not make as big of a difference as the panels mounted directly behind my desk, they did somewhat help with the room's acoustics since that door is at an angle to me and would reflect some of the sounds coming off the back wall. Installation was really easy since they aren't too big and only require 2 brackets each. The only con is that they emitted a strong smell right out of the box which went away after a day or so. If you're sensitive to smells, perhaps leaving them out in a different part of the house for a couple of days would be a good idea.

However, I think the sound reduction is so noise does not pass through the wall from one room to the next and not for purposes of reducing sound in the same room. The material is too hard to absorb sound. I needed something that would not only keep sound from going through the wall but would reduce the sound in the room. I returned and ordered another product. Not recommended for my use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice-looking sound absorbers Owens Corning is a major player in professional sound control, so these do just what they say. Each panel absorbs 90% of the mid and high sound which hits it, so nearly 4 square feet of total absorption per panel (2 panels per box). Additionally they are nicely finished (boring white) and should not shed fibers, and come with mounting clips. Sound control is not widely understood. Fiberglass panels do not block sound, they keep sound from bouncing around the room and annoying you more. If sound is coming through a wall, first fill all openings in the wall. The gap under a door will leak far more noise than the rest of the wall. Weather-stripping the door can make a huge difference. Solid-core ("fire rated") doors are better than light doors. If there are gaps around pipes, wires, cracks, fix these leaks. Then add absorption. Either near the source or in the room you want quieter. Note that a mostly-hard room will need a lot of panel area to make a large difference. 10% of total surface area is a start. In a living room, this may be 500-1,000 square feet. Carpet helps some, stuffed sofas help a lot, and acoustic panels add even more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It reduces sound These panels absorb sound and make a room quieter. They work. Just one panel will absorb some sound and make a room quieter. Each panel is 24” x 24” x 1⅛” thick, covered with cloth which is glued at its edge on the back side of the panel. The panels are light, just 3½ pounds, and easy to handle. I wanted to cut down the noise of vehicle traffic in my bedroom where the road is just thirty feet away. To try their effectiveness I leaned a panel against the wall and placed another panel on top of it — they stayed in place without fasteners. The reduction in road noise was apparent. Vehicles made less noise as they passed by. Noise within the room — talking, radio, TV, was also reduced. It was as though I had hung a blanket on one wall, which muffled the sound. Quiet to me is precious. These panels do not have an odor. These panels in the 24” x 48” size did have a strong musty odor that took three weeks to dissipate. Instructions come with the panels for mounting them to a wall, along with two “Angled Impaling Clips” for each panel, each with three sheet rock screws. One clip is to be used near the top of the panel at the center, and one near the bottom at the center. The clips are attached to the sheet rock with three screws each. Each clip has an angled-at-45 degrees upward point onto which the panel is “impaled”. The clips hold the panel about 1/16” off of the wall. The cloth covering the panel can be cleaned with a vacuum or brush. I think the cloth covering the panel makes it impractical to trim the panel to a smaller dimension, for the cloth covering would then have an open edge which could unravel and might wrinkle. We found that the white panels blended easily with our white wood trim and pale yellow walls. The cloth can be painted. These panels do reduce sound, and they’re easy to mount and are unobtrusive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product with good results. My home has lots of travertine tile and wood floors, and so is very "live". I installed a total of 22 of these tiles throughout the house and the result was that the "echo" was significantly reduced. I am thinking of even buying more. They are easy to paint, but be forewarned that they are like painting a sponge. It took three coats to fully cover the panels. I painted the panels the same color as the walls (which are a very light beige). Installation can be quite tedious, especially if you are trying to put them on a regular interval and on a straight line. Even 1/4" of misalignment is astonishingly visible. A laser level (or two) is extremely helpful. A couple of panels arrived with the corners ever so slightly damaged. Instead of returning, I just oriented the panels so that the damaged corner faced the ceiling and so was not visible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Owens Corning's great customer service. I received my first order with a defect, the panels were very smelly, so I left a bad review thinking that this was the way the panels were. I was contacted by the manufacturer who offered to send other panels at no cost. I receive the second pair of panels and was very pleased with them, no smell at all and I am getting ready to paint on them. I certainly am very happy with the customer service of Owens Corning. They stand behind their products and make sure the customers are happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound absorbing panels. They are just two sheets of fiberglass mesh enclosed in white cloth. Cloth cover is nicely done, there's been no leaking glass dust and they feel safe to handle. They look a bit plain on the wall, but ... whattaya want? You cn paint'em.
