Customer Questions & Answers

what is different about a garage door opener bulb

Asked by: Anonymous
I had a problem with my garage door opener. The remote would open the door but it would not close the door. I replaced the LED bulbs and the door responded perfectly to the remote. I installed CFL bulbs and they would not light. I installed standard incandescent bulbs and they worked fine. A googled search will verify the problem with LED bulbs in at least some garage door openers/

Are garage opener bulbs universal or specific to type of opener.

Asked by: Kntryboy66
Bulbs are universal except for Ryobi's new opener witch come with a built in LED bulb.

60-Watt Incandescent A19 Garage Door Light Bulb (2-Pack) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine It was hard to find this bulb among all the others, and easy to pick the wrong bulb, like an oven bulb or ceiling fan bulb but this one seems rugged, and is working fine in summer and winter temps

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not sure if they're worth it. I installed a pair of these in my belt-drive garage door opener. That opener has a motion sensor so the lights come on whenever someone goes into the garage. As such, they cycle on several (maybe up to 20) times per day for about 4 minutes each time. That's about 80 minutes per day, although sometimes I'll be in the garage for longer (almost never more than an hour). Phillips claims that these bulbs should last about 3.2 years at 3 hours of on-time per day. I just had a bulb go out after about 13 months of use. I'll see how long the other bulb lasts, but it seems that Phillips' longevity claim may be optimistic.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SIX CYCLES and it "went black"! Just my luck! Purchased the pair on 9/4/2013 at 0900. Went home - put them in - cycled the door SIX TIMES throughout the day and one of them "went black" inside! I am guessing AIR leaked into the bulb and "smoked" the filament on the next cycle! So .... back to HD I go in a couple minutes! Nice shiney bulbs in hand to see if I can get them replaced! Maybe a fluke - but the "Philips 60-Watt A19 Garage Door Light Bulbs" are a flop thus far. I would have been better off buying the 10 pack of "Economy Bulbs" for less money and had a sufficient number to last nearly two YEARS - not simply "SIX CYCLES"! It is the TIME and FUEL wasted to take these back that simply, "ticks me off"! Phillips - a bad deal IMHO! John

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bulb! Have used this bulb in garage door light and inside the house. Long life bulbs. Have had 4 in a ceiling fan difficult to reach in vaulted room and after 4-5 years, finally 1 burned out! Ordering more...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bulb but a little pricey I hope they last long for the price (I think they are a little pricey because they are not a designer style bulb by no means
