Answer: 
Take it outside and brush off the dust and ash. Wash it in hot water with a small amount of liquid laundry detergent, about a tablespoon. Rinse it until you can't smell the detergent anymore. Let it dry thoroughly in the open air before reinstalling. If it feels damp, dry it out some more.

Wash by hand only! Don't be too rough with these as any little holes you create will result in ash/dust blowing through the discharge of your vac. I find that a good spray with a garden hose is sufficient. Let it hang to fully dry before using it again.

Yes. I have used it to clean up after both a kitchen remodel and also a basement finishing project. It works quite nicely on the fine dust after sanding drywall and joint compound. Just make sure not to mix use with wet applications.
