Answer:
Both like most consumer and commercial models widely available. The design, as is common in the industry, is most suited to side discharge. Performance suffers significantly for front discharge because of turbulence losses associated with air flow diversion from the inherent blade path.

yup - there's an attachment that stores underneath the blower that, when attached, will direct the airflow to the front (it goes out the side without attachment).

The default position is to the left of the operator. It has an attachment to blow straight ahead but I have not found that useful. It does not blow to the right of the operator.

Is this blower good for a 1 acre 'very leafy' property? Or do I need something more powerful?

I live on about an acre and get a lot of leaves. Will this product suffice or do I really need to get a $1,000 walk behind blower (or are those only for the professional landscape/mowing companies for use in one-time fall cleanups)?

Thanks.

This is an entry level machine - only 1200 cfm. Don't expect miracles. If you have heavy leaf buildup and a large area to clear, count on spending a lot more for a 8-10 hp machine that will do the job in a reasonable period of time with minimal fuss.

I would say that the power is okay, but there are other things to consider:
- the chute sits only a few inches off the ground. So, as leaves pile up on the perimeter it gets more and more difficult to 'move the pile';
- you only have two choices for directing the chute... left or, using a supplied attachment, straight ahead. So you have to push one direction, pull for the other direction if you want to

Answer:
I found that if you're smart about managing the size of your leaf piles, this will do the trick. So don't just dump everything into one pile and expect this blower to move it - but if you break your yard up into smaller sections and work that way, you should be fine. I live on 3.5 acres and have about 1 acre to maintain and didn't have any problems working this way.

Hey john. This type of blower is commercial but the engine on it is residential. This blower will move over 20% more air than my strongest in stock commercial backpack blower. This blower is extremely powerful and would be strong enough for any job.

According to the user guide, it's 163cc. At approximately 1HP per 25 cc, that makes this engine about 5hp (see conversion charts on the web). The brand is anybody's guess. It's made in China, and I can't find any branding on the engine at all. The machining and castings looks good, and overall construction is average. It's better than some Chinese replacements (i.e. copies) for "known" brand replacement Read More

Cleaning the spark plug with carburetor cleaner may solve the problem if you're lucky. If that doesn't solve the problem and the engine doesn't crank smoothly, you may have severely damaged it, in which case a new engine will be necessary. Moral of the story? You guessed it. DO NOT OVERFILL OIL. ALWAYS ADD THE RIGHT AMOUNT GRADUALLY AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT IS CORRECT BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START. Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by don't buy this product i bought this blower about 3 years ago for personal use. So i used it about 3 times, once each fall. went to use it this past weekend and it leaked oil and gas and died after less than 5 uses. Still looks like new but doesn't work November 29, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of power I was disappointed as soon as I started the engine. The machine lacks power and barely moved dry leaves. I'm returning the blower ASAP! November 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worthless loss of $350.00 I was able to use this once. I can't get it to start even with starter fluid. Don't make the same mistake as I did, avoid this worthless piece of junk and save yourself endless aggravation. November 5, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of Junk Broke after one season. Took 3 months to fix and couldn't be used in season 2. Worked fine in season 3, but when added fuel at the start of season 4 fuel tank had ruptured and gas all over. Home Deport says another 4 months to gix(maybe) October 24, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do Not Buy! Before I bought this blower, I read almost every review. I have no idea how anyone could be happy with this blower. The only good thing to say is that it easy to start. 1. The blower is weak. 2, The swivel wheel gets stuck easily making the device unstable. 3. It is hard to push in grass. 4. The wheels dig into the ground on any incline. 5. The intake becomes clogged very easily. 6. The blower could not move a leaf pile. 7. The blower could not blow leave through a mulch bed. 8. The blower could not blow wet leaves. It is not worth the money!! If your yard is flat, the size of a postage stamp or mostly paved, this blower might work! December 9, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Product is awesome; Shipping stinks! takes some getting used to and; yes, the front swivel wheel often presents a challenge. Highly recommend to get the job done in LESS than half the time. although as mentioned in other reviews the intake does collect leaves, pine needles, etc., it takes little or no effort to clear them and throw them into the path of a HIGHLY powerful stream of air. Only reason didn't give it a 5 star was the shipping. I think HD sells through a 3rd party. if you are looking for an effective, powerful, no more backaches blower, this is it. nothing negative to add; just wish it would pick up the piles of leaves, put them in the truck, and haul them away! December 3, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Control? I bought this walk behind blower today, The price, over all specifications and metal construction seemed to out weigh the lack of a 'name brand' engine. After the set up, I put gas in the tank, which promptly started coming out of a hose connected to the Carburetor! I tried to get to the hose to make sure it was connected and I found that it had a tear in it and the tiny cable clamp was not on the hose. I tried to capture the gas, but a lot of it came out on my garage floor, and driveway. It looks like no one did any quality testing on the engine? It went back to Home Depot tonight! Next time I'll be looking for a higher quality unit with a identifiable motor. October 7, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by walkbehind blower i purchased this product online a week ago..first off the shipping was supposed to take 8 to 9 days and i got it in 4..nothing likea great surprise like that. after using the product it was great..i have a 48cc blower which is really powerfull but i wanted something a bit more powerful for cleanups...overall this is a good product for the price..the only thing negative i have to say about the product is that it is not overwelming with power but that is fine because you can only find that on blowers like this that go for 2,000 which is crazy. i recomend this to any home owner who is looking for a reliable blower October 3, 2010
