Bending for tree ring

Can one eight-foot section of this stuff be bent to form a small tree ring for a shrub? Or is it too stiff or fragile for that?
Asked by: peterreb
You probably could . The ends have grooves that you have to match up and they slide into one another, so you need to advance the edging in to the other end about 4 inches minimum. We just connected on piece to another and made curves. It's not fragile, but it is a bit rigid, you might want to have someone hold the ring while you make the connection.

How would I cut this edging?

Is there a good tool to use to cut edging to fit size/length needed?
Asked by: Agatha
I used a vice, hacksaw, metal file. Slide on the cut-end so both ends of the edging-run is "factory finish"

How does the material handle turning corners at a right angle?

Is there a way to reinforce a corner, where the edging needs to turn at a right angle?
Asked by: ck1024
My husband used a hacksaw to make a groove in the aluminum and was able to easily bend it, and the pieces snapped clean, since we needed to shorten the length. I think a right angle would be very weak and I don't know it they make some sort of corner pieces or not. We did all curves. Sorry

We purchased 4 boxes of this edging for our landscape project and we are totally satisfied. Once you engage one piece with the next by sliding into the slots on the upper and lower edge of each piece, it gets easier and easier. We just took a pick axe and made the curves around the planting beds, about 3 inches deep, curved the pieces and set them with the spikes in the kit. Then we backfilled with dirt and finished with river rock, see pics. We would recommend this system to anyone, it was so easy. We used the bronze color edging.

After a rain the ground was soft, I was able to use a flat shovel to slice the ground open, rock the shovel back & forth to create a "V" . I repeated this procedure for the 24' length. I slipped the edging pieces together and taped them with aluminum duct tape. Then I slipped them into the "V" and tapped them down with a rubber mallet. I was well pleased with the result and I will order some additional sets.

Had to return the first order as the four edges had been shipped where three of the four edges were partially jammed together. They're designed to slip together to create the up to 24 foot edge. Problem was that they were jammed up and could not get them apart. The second order had a similar problem with only two of the four jammed together. Was able to pry them apart without damaging them, but they shouldn't have been shipped that way in the first place. Ordered these a year or so ago and didn't have this problem. Company needs to look at their packaging/shipping approach before they loss more customers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best edging I have ever used I have used plastic and stone borders before, but this edging does it all. It is recessed in a trench and should prevent grass from creeping through and not move or change shape over time. I would like to add a few tips for the next person that installs it. 1. Wear gloves when sliding the two pieces together. I sliced my thumb when they slid together but was still able to install around a tree.Black electrical tap would work well also. 2. As others suggested, I taped over the spike holes with clear packing tape on both sides. 3. Using the claw end of a hammer to dig the trench worked best. I put the circle around the tree a little larger than the installed size so I could use it as a template to start the first trench at about 1/2" depth and moved the ring to dig deeper. Sliding the overlap joints another inch or so so it fit perfectly in the trench. 4. Used a wonder bar for trenching along a concrete walk way after a good rain worked perfectly to push any rocks or buried debris clear. After laid in the trench, a short 2x4 was used to tap the edging down to the correct level.

Horrible. 14 out of 17 kits had defective panels that would not connect. 1 kit even had all the panels stuck together as if they painted the panels, the stuck 4 of them together and stuck them in a box to dry. These kits come with silver stakes. Really? black kit with silver stakes. The landscape company I hired to install said they would "never again" attempt to work with this edging on future projects.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 1/2. They don't slide apart!! We had to return and order it almost three times to get ones that were not stuck together. They come already slid together (bad idea) the 2nd time we got them in the mail, we had to force them apart w a paint can key, which scratched the black paint on them. For the price this is not worth the trouble. Manufacture them already apart and it's worth it. They lay and bend nicely.
