Is this plant heat hardy for Phoenix AZ?

Asked by: NEthumbinAZ
Hi NEthumbinAZ, Yes, the Let's Dance Blue Jangles hydrangea is heat hardy to zone 9, which is Phoenix AZ's zone. In warm climates like Arizona, these hydrangeas should be shaded during the hottest parts of the day. Full morning sun is best. Also, Let's Dance hydrangeas are best left unpruned - though they bloom on both old and new wood, you'll enjoy many more blooms over a longer period if you don't prune them except to remove any dead wood in spring, once the new growth has emerged. If you have any questions please call our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

I live in their cold weather like 40 below possible what r my chances of it staying alive

Asked by: Tam
Hi Tim, Unfortunately this hydrangea would not be able to survive 40 below weather. It is hardy for zones 5-9, meaning the lowest temperature it is hardy for is about 20 below. You can find your exact hardiness zone by searching for the USDA Hardiness Zones Map on Google and then typing in your address. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call us at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

Received one that had been nipped by an unexpected frost during shipping and they immediately sent a new one. I will always look to order here first as I know they care about customer satisfaction. And the plants are beautiful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small, but hardy plant I planted this small hydrangea approximately six weeks ago. It's a quart, so it's not very large. It seemed to ship well, and arrived looking healthy, green and ready to plant. I left it in the pot for a few days just because I did not have a chance to plant it, and the leaves began to brown and wilt. However, as soon as I planted it and watered it well it came back quite green and strong. I have terrible soil made mostly of clay. Despite this fact, this hydrangea is doing well and living up to its "hardy" name. Like I said, I've had it planted for almost two months, and it still has not bloomed. I'm waiting for the blue blooms to appear...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little plant, too soon to know how it'll perform The plant arrived looking healthy and vibrant - and considering it had to travel in a cardboard box in the summer heat, that's pretty impressive. The only problem- if you'd call it that- is that the plant is small. Not that 'small' is bad, but it'll never reach its potential this late in the season. However, it's planted in the landscape and appears to be holding its own so far, so I'm fairly confident it'll show it's mettle next spring.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They were not real healthy looking. But most important was... They were not real healthy looking. But most important was that they were not marked which one was which variety. I wanted to plant one blue one pink one blue one pink next to each other but there was no way of telling which one was which So I just planted them and will have to dig them up after they bloom to tell the colors. Maybe I got lucky when planting. But they should have come marked with their names!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Very Durable Bush The bush came in a box that was packed so the bush was not damaged but it did have some brown leaves. My wife planted it the day after we received it plus she always adds fertilizer and waters her plants every day which is very important. We have several Hydrangea bushes on our property and always have good luck with them. This bush comes back every year and they always sprout beautiful flowers. This bush will get up to three feet wide and tall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beauiful Hydrangea When I got the plant it was very small, but it has grown about a foot in two weeks. I have always wanted an Hydrangea in my yard, so we cleared a space to put it . It is a vigorous grower. The Proven Winner brand is the best plant company. The shipping was very good, not an oz of dirt spilled. Very good boxes and packaged good. I love the bush and it is a lovely color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arrived in great condition and survived a late frost I pulled up some very old (50+ year) azaleas to plant hydrangea. I went with these big leaf hydrangea as they can tolerate the strong sun in that particularly garden bed and because my wife likes blue flowers. I also went with the 4.5in qt as opposed to the gallon to save money and because I am not in a hurry. The hydrangea were packaged very well and arrived within a few days. It was early April and they had budded already. Maybe a week or two out of dormancy. See pictures I attached of the packaging, the top of the pots were covered with cardboard to limit dirt spillage. I planted them according to instruction. We had a frost two weeks later that severely damaged one, moderately damaged two others and did affect the fourth that much. I was worried but they all recovered. Only two will likely bloom this year. For what its worth, my large and established hydrangea received a lot of frost damage as well. We had two more bad frosts and I covered the new small hydrangea with big pots overnight which prevented anymore damage. It is now mid-May and they have all recovered and grown! In the photos you can see some of the damage. The tallest hydrangea is the one that had the least frost damage. Once a month I feed them with the MiracleGro fertilizer for acid-loving plants. The soil needs the right PH for a blue bloom.
