The QEP 10 in. wide Professional Profile and Contour Gauge allows you to easily copy shapes to tile, laminate, engineered wood, solid wood and vinyl flooring to precisely cut flooring to match objects. Simply press the durable teeth against the obstacle to match the contour and then trace the shape to your flooring with a China Marker.

  • For marking precise cutouts in vinyl, wood, porcelain and ceramic tiles
  • Copies the contour of pipes and columns so you can trace it to the flooring and precisely cut a matching shape
  • Durable plastic teeth will not rust over time
  • 10 in. with fits around most common pipes and round columns
  • Just press against object and then copy the shape onto flooring with a China marker to make a precise cut
  • Also comes in handy with base molding, chair rails, crown molding and finishing door and window frames

can one attach a couple of them together to get a 20"?

can one attach a couple of them together to get a 20"?
Asked by: Al
Yes but it would take some custom work to do so. It's not like they just "snap together". The yellow end caps are the only solid pieces. If you are handy you could drill and mount them together. I'm not sure how sturdy it would be unless it was across a solid board that you mount them all to. Note the contour is 10" and only measures a max difference of 2". So for example if you wanted to measure something like 20"x4", you would actually need 3 and would have to stagger them. Say mount the center one up, the two end ones down if doing a 20x4" arch.

10 in. Professional Profile and Contour Gauge is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little tool for specific projects. This entire gauge is roughly a foot long. And can shift about 2". Which is to say the most it can measure is a 12x2" shape. So you won't be using it for any 6 foot arch ways or anything of that sort. With that said, it is very useful for smaller contours. Especially plumbing and carpentry. Examples. For carpentry I've used this to copy and match dove tails on cabinets and floor boards. For plumbing I've ran into a few (rare) scenarios where I'm replacing very old out of date custom plumbing, that doesn't have a straight forward degree label, so I use this to essentially copy, and paste. A contour gauge is very useful in many other ways, so long as you are creative enough. This is a tool that I don't use that often, but when I use it, it's very useful!

When my buddy described this tool, I thought for sure it would cost a fortune. Considering how useful it is to the DIY'er, they could sell them for 10X as much and it would still be a bargain. Absolutely essential if you are laying a floor....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 in Professional Profiler and Contour Gauge The QEP 10 is a profile and contour gauge made of hard plastic not metal. In that being plastic it will not rust. With this tool it takes the guess work when the items is irregular shapes and help you use less material doing the hit and miss approach. All you do is press the teeth against the obstacle you want to match and then you trace the shape to the item you are trying to cut. It does a fairly good job. The QEP 10 is for general profile information and not for precise detail work. Don’t expect a precise detail profile, if you want that you will need to spend a lot more money for a precise profile. The with states 10 in but it actually is 9 7/8” This one is good for the DIY’er.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice gadget to have Bought it to transfer irregular contours onto tiles or vinyl flooring, but have not used it yet. Seems to do a good job following shapes and conforming to contours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE FOR CONTOUR CUTS A tool requirement to make accurate contour cuts. The blades are a bit stiff when placing against your master so you have to give it some push but they stay put when you remove it. A little fine tuning will be needed as expected. This a great start for matching curves, including manuvering compound curves for a close match. The blue and yellow make it easy to find on the worktable. Plastic appears to be sturdy and durable for long term usage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from clever tool, but made entirely of plastic... Great tool for instalation of flooring, counter tops, and for contouring trim to stone or other irregular shapes. I had one like this many years ago that was made of metal. This one is made entirely of plastic. Product works well, but not very durable. It's not expensive though, so it's probably a decent value...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as I expected. No better, no worse. As long as you understand what you are getting when you buy this, it will be ok. It will be apparent when you pick it up that the followers that will actually be contacting what you are trying to match the profile of are rather thick. This is certainly not for capturing intricate detail, but it seems like it will last longer than the normal wire follower profile gauges that practically bend on the way home. For general profile information and not super tight precise detail this works wonderfully. As long as you don't expect more, it is the right tool for the job.
