As I recall the package said 3/4 inch pipe, but I used it both on 3/4 and 1/2 inch pipe.

I need to remove a compression nut from a piece of copper to install a new compression nut to attach my BrassCraft quarter stop to. What holds the new compression nut on the copper tube?
Asked by: Phobe
It has been compressed onto the pipe. If you cannot re-use then the pipe needs to be cut off below the compression ring.

I needed to install shutoff valves in two 3/4" copper water lines, but they are only1-1/8" apart. The Rigid 104 Tubing Cutter did the job with no problem. It fit nicely in the small space between the water lines and turned true, staying in one place and not spiraling down the copper tubing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap This is a lousy tool. It's very slow to use. I was not able to get in some places with it. The piece that you turn to tighten it is course threaded and difficult to operate in the tight spaces I was in. I had to use my Sawzall several times then cut off 1/4" more to get rid of the jagged edges the Sawzall left.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I recently purchased this cutter to replace my old mini cutter that went missing. I considered the HDX brand at a lower price point, but noticed that it has no rollers. That seemed like a poor compromise, and I liked the build on this Rigid product. I've used it now a few times and it does the job. It doesn't cut as quickly as my lost cutter (brand unknown). I believe the other had a larger knob, so that is probably the reason. I suppose that in the wrong hands this one is less likely to compress the tubing. It gets 4 instead of 5 stars because I'm a demanding grader and most things have room for improvement. I suppose I would ask for a larger knob in this case.

You just never know when you are going to face a tight fit situation where you need to cut a piece of tubing. I have owned several of these over the years and could tell that they would not last at the time I purchased them and they didn't. This one costs a little more but appears to be one of those tools that I will pass down to the next generation. As for doing the job? It does it well. Place it where you need to cut the tubing, tighten the grip and slowly roll it around the tubing while tightening it until the cutting wheel finishes the job. Just remember to keep it clean and dry so you can use it for years.

Purchased this to cut the copper piping in order to remove & replace the TP valve on the water heater. It cut through the 3/4" tubing with ease. I really like that the product was made in the USA and compared to the better quality to another lesser priced one which was made outside of the US. This was better constructed and a few dollars more which I gladly paid for. Great to see items still being manufactured in the US & being offered for a reasonable price of this quality. Please give it a try.

I bought this to cut some close to the wall copper pipe during a demo so we could cap the lines. It worked perfectly. The cut was clean and it's incredibly easy to use; just tighten to the pipe size - turn it around the pipe once - tighten the knob - turn - tighten - repeat - and the pipe will come clean off. Look forward to using this with other projects!
