Customer Questions & Answers

How do I remove the old filter? There is a plug or cap on top and I don't see how to remove it.

I need to change the filter. I have the new filter. There are no instructions on the box or inside regarding removing the old filter and attaching the new. It is really not self explanatory to me, perhaps because of the amount of dirt covering the old filter. However, I need help.

Yes I just bought this last week. It is a easy job. The thing is on a hub and doesn't turn or move. It only can work by pulling off the old filter and putting on the new one. At least that is the way for the VF3500 for the 4 Gallon Rigid Vacuum.

can I use this filter for water?

Asked by: Joe52571
No, and it is not recommended. I believe you would need to use the VF3700 for wet applications. The VF3500 can be washed, but must be dried thoroughly before being used again. That is why I have at least two on hand.

Can I use the VF3500 to vacuum snow/slush brought into my garage by car during winter?

I bought the 4 gallon vacuum as that is all the room I have for storage. Since it was a "WET/dry" vac, I assumed it would work for water issues. I don't see a foam "water" filter available for my vacuum. Is it OK to use the VF3500 for the snow/slush purpose and/or do you make just a wet version for the 4 gallon vac? If not, would you consider it?
Asked by: Bluejay
No, for dry use only. They also sell filters meant for wet applications.

My only concern with a good product is the cost of the expendables. Just like a cheaper printer and costly ink. There should be someone that makes these for a lot less. It is the only reason it gets a lower star rating.

I have a small Ridgid shop vac that we use to clean our indoor pet rabbit cages. We use these filters, and the work great. There's tons of fine hair, and lots of allergens from the dry hay (the rabbit food), and this captures it all very well. They last a surprisingly long time too. Even when it is completely matted with fur and dust, there's still good suction and the exhaust air is clean. When I change the filter, the inside of the filter, and all the parts of the vacuum inside the filter are almost spotless, confirming that the filter is doing a great job. I also use the larger version of this in my big Ridgid shop vac in the garage, same results.

The strange design leaves a lot to be improved on. The two bottom rubber fins are all you've got to work with to attach it which is very awkward. They really need to take some pointers from other manufactures and encompass the whole filter on both end in rubber and steel mesh, this design is just much better and easier to work with. This filter as is, is so weird to put on and I’m worried I’m gonna break it. I haven’t yet tested the cleaning ability of it but the suction seems to be pretty good so far and it does do a good job filtering of things. Just the rubber design of it leaves me questioning its durability and potential life span.

As someone who is kind of new to the wet-dry vac and dust collection game, I didn't think much of hours of collecting sawdust with a used shop vac and old filter. Woops. I wish I had changed the filter sooner. Immediately the power of the vac increased and dust collection was vastly improved. Seems like a great filter to my unqualified but practical opinion and I would recommend.

Some of the pleats were damage in my install attempt. I went and bought filter bags. I was afraid that the damage would cause the vacuum to take in dust and ruin the machine.
