Yes, of course you can vac up water with this vac, but remove the internal filter first before picking up water. The internal filter is for dry vacing only.

I would recommend you remove any bag or paper filter inside the vac then just use as normal. empty water and leave the vacuum open so it dries before you reassemble.

I believe you can leave the filter in place... but best would be be to pull the blue filter off and get a we filter for the unit. Then just suck up the water!

Answer:
I have not used it for rugs but expect it would be just fine, The suction power is strong. It does not have a "beater brush" so it's really intended for loose debris. It would be quite good at getting some extra water out of the carpet after wet/"steam" cleaning. Be sure to clean the hose well before touching it to carpet.

I would use a typical vacuum clean to do that job. Rugs have grains, and texture. Therefore, The typical vacuum works better. This vac is better suited for industrial usage.

Unclip the top from the bottom of the vac. Remove the paper filter (this is located on the top half of the vac under the motor). You are ready to go. Remember to replace the filter once the inside of the vac is dry.

FYI: To remove the filter - press the center rubber piece ("button") that protrudes from the filter. It will pop off pretty easily. (Good design.) Vac works best if one knocks the dust from the filter frequently. Do not use the filter with liquids. Read Less

Sorry I couldn't answer the question earlier. I have been in a 2 day training session. To answer the question, this vac is about as noisy as any other it size. The best thing you get from it is it's suction ability. For the money, I say it' the best you'll buy. Also, I did not realize it was a blower. My yard vac broke. So, I'll be using it to blow off my driveway.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 663 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Portable Wet/Dry Vac It's a great vac with lots of suction. It's small enough to carry around from job to job. The height of this vac is listed wrong. It is listed as 14.5" but is actually more like 16" without the extension tube stored which would make it even taller. Rigid Web site lists it as 16.75" You can use any of the 2.5 inch hoses and attachments. The hose that is sent has a built in reducer on the end. The hose that comes with it, is a bit stiff as some of the other reviews have said. There is a place to store all of the attachments, power cord, and even the hose. The pictures never show the hose stored. Maybe because it's not the greatest storage of the hose. According to the instructions, you wrap the hose in a loop twice and connect the two ends together then wrap in the same location as the electric cord. The problem is that the hose is made so cheap that it will collapse and kink if it's rolled that tight. So I do almost the same thing but just don't connect the two ends so that the loop is not as tight as to start kinking. May 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Vacuum is easy to use and has very strong suction. I'm glad it takes vacuum bags because this way I won't need to clean it out. My only negative is that the attachments do not work well for vacuuming a carpet--they're simply not made for that, and the hose is bigger than the attachments on regular vacuums, so I can't use an attachment I already have. I bought the shop vac to use while figuring out what is wrong with my built-in vac. Once that's figured out and the built in is repaired or replaced, my plan is to give the shop vac to my son and his family who are now waiting for the closing date on a fixer-upper. They will need a good shop vac. :-) June 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by excitedly hopeful, sadly disappointed I liked the size, the mobility and the attachments. Which is what attracted me to purchasing it. The suction was good, tho the blower part felt a bit lacking. I would have kept it and recommended it IF the hose (and its clip) were better made. It has a nice size hose but it was far too stiff and inflexible, which is probably why the very cheap plastic clip meant to keep the hose attached to the device broke on the first use - thus the hose kept popping out. It's suppose to be a nice mobile unit- but the hose really does not work well with it. July 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase! Purchased this vacuum at Home Depot for two reasons, quality and performance. I needed a good car vacuum to replace my old one which was a small Shop vac, which worked great for years. The new Shop vac comparable model (from my old one) is made like junk, very cheap plasticy looking and opted to upgrade to this Home Depot vacuum instead. Yes, a little more money but well worth it. I have used it quite of few times already and it definitely performs well, long electrical cord, longer hose but unfortunately I still needed to purchase a large crevice tool attachment that it does not come with, I'm sure by Home Depot's design, still was worth it! May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Plenty of power Use this for smaller stuff around the house, debris collector, dust collector, and as a vacuum when I don't feel like pulling my dyson out! July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Keep Looking I have a chocolate lab who sheds like crazy and white tile flooring. I vacuum up the hair almost every day with a vacuum because a broom just does not get all of the hair. This vacuum was purchased by my husband after our old Shop-Vac died. I have to say I disliked this new one from day one, but kept it thinking I would get used to it. NOPE! We have had this vacuum for a year now and I still get frustrated every time I use it. My main complaints are how hard it is to maneuver, how loud it is compared to my old, bigger one, the lack of attachments for the price, the canister is very hard to open, and in the resting position the hose is upright making it difficult to store in small spaces. The only good thing I can say is that it has good suction for what I use it for. Unfortunately this only positive does not outweigh all of the other negatives for me. I should have returned it when I had the chance. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I was looking for Lightweight, yet has wheels to roll. LOVE that you can install a bag for less dust when emptying. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Just quit working I have had this for over a year and probably used it 6 times. It never had excessive use and last week I went to use it and it just stopped working. July 14, 2016
