When do we have to change the filter?

How best to clean the filter
Asked by: sonofarussian
When the filter seems very dirty and the vacuum is working harder than usual (you can tell by the sound it makes), that's the time to clean or change the filter.

I have this filter installed on my WD 3050 vac but it reduces the suction too much. I have it installed exactly like the instructions, without the bag the suction is very strong. Is this normal?
Asked by: Kal
I have it installed on a WD4070 and did not notice any reduction. Just make sure it's spread out to the sides so the bag can expand the way it needs to. One other thing is to make sure your air filter isn't clogged, make sure it's clean so there is enough air flow through it.

Can the Rigid WD4070 vacuum be used without a dust bag!

Asked by: Tob
It can, but I'd recommend leaving it on in case you have a puncture from a nail or such which would cause the dust to go straight into the vacuum intake. I left my standard filter on with the same vac you have and there was no noticeable difference in power.

High-Efficiency Dust Bags for 3.0 gal. to 4.5 gal. RIDGID Wet Dry Vacs (2-Pack) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vacuum Needed a solution for vacuuming drywall dust. Filters in regular shop vacs get clogged by the dust. This bag does a good job preventing that. Also kept the air in my home clearner during cleanup. If you're not going to do the dustless vac with HEPA filter (~$500), this is a good option for keeping the air quality medium/good. Product works as advertised.

However, the filter has a way of filling up fairly fast, which lowers vacuum suction and decreases the efficiency of the rig. Particularly with fine dust like drywall dust. And MAN! Are the filters a Pain in the Drain to clean! Based on this I decided to give these a test run. These bags have a great deal of surface area and not only extend the time between Cleaning and emptying, but maintain a greater average suction compared to the vac filter alone. and emptying is a much cleaner and quicker job as all the schmutz is inside the bag. Plus, in combination with a 3-Layer Fine Dust Pleated Paper Filter, this comes Darn close to HEPA grade filtration. And finally, these store within my RIDGID WD4522 and WD45500 (that has been running strong for 10years now) Pro Vac's accessory compartments, so I can (usually :) ) find them. Conclusion? I Love them and keep a few 2-packs on hand at all times.

Just change out the filters. They decrease the capacity of the machine first off and the bag will not allow you to use it to its own full bag capacity. Filters can be washed several times before you have to throw them away. If you have a compressor to blow the filters clean they will last even longer. I have the 4 gal and the 16 gallon units. The 4 gallon for sure I wont use the bag, for the 16 I only use the bag only to clean up saw dust when I am doing wood working. I use the 4 gallon to clean up my pellet stove and the fine ash goes right through the bag! Notice the bag too on the amount it will hold before the hose starts to clog!

How... these bags were advertised to fit several makes and models, my model shop vac was among them. However after purchasing the bags and trying to install it on my machine I found that it would not fit my vac. I needed to complete vacuuming right then, so I had to cut the new bag apart and reshape and tape it to my machine to get it to work. I would not purchase these bags for any make other than the Ridgid shop vac.
