The first time, probably being a little to aggressive with the drill, the plastic frame cracked where the drill connects and it was rendered useless. The second purchase also broke, but I was able to use it 4 or 5 times successfully before it broke. After my first experience, I'm very careful with the drill only operating it at very slow speeds. Unfortunately, like many others have described, the inner cable is secured by a single screw and a fragile piece of plastic which will eventually break. The cable would no longer retract and I had to pull it out by hand. I'm giving this a three star review because it did successfully clear up multiple clogs before it broke, but I think the product would be vastly better if the (a) the cable was secured betting to the house and (b) the last couple of feet of cable were painted a different color, or there was some indication that you were coming to the end of the line (literally and figuaritively)

Bought this last night to unclog a bath tub that would keep clogging after clearing the clogs with drain cleaners. First, the build quality of this, although plastic, is not bad. I removed the handle to use my drill in the low-torque mode to ensure it didn't spin to fast. I inserted about 10-15 feet into the drain, and pulled out a clump of hair that was stronger than steel wire. This clog was way beyond the trap where most drain cleaners only work. The tool paid for itself in 5 minutes. WELL worth the price. Highly recommended.

First purchased a smaller/cheaper auger from the local hardware store. After fighting it for a couple hours, went and bought the Ridgid PowerSpin. This sucker works....within 20 minutes had pipe cleared. Take your time, let it crawl its way along the pipe. Im not one to write reviews, unless I am blown away by a products performance. This product exceeded my expectations. Thanks Ridgid for a product that worked as described.

I always use a drill hooked up to it. If you have never ran a snake it can be hard to tell if it is going forward or not. It would be nice to have some sort of marking on the cable to help determine that or how far in the pipe you are. Note, it is always messy no matter how you do it so keep some paper towels nearby.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great tool We live in a 102 year old home that gets roots in the sewer line. Pulled the toilet and this grabbed some of them and worked hard fighting to clear them all. Ultimately had to call a plumber but he said he had one of these at home. Powerful little tool. The handle could use some work.

My Wife skinned potatoes in the sink against my constant warnings that it will clog the drain, sure enough when emptying the pot of water the potatoes were boiling in, the drain was clogged... After a quick google search of what rental costs are ($28) and seeing this at $35, it was a no brainer to buy seeing how wifes are known not to always listen to their husbands... 10min after getting home with the snake the drain was clog free and back together.

Bought it today and used it this evening, so I can't comment on its durability and give it five stars. But it worked very well. I had a hand-crank 20' auger that did not work, so I bought this. I unscrewed the p-trap under our bathroom sink, attached a drill, and was able to feed it in. Took some effort, and sometimes I could not tell if it was actually feeding into the pipe, but it did poke through the stoppage. I considered another brand for $10 less but a Home Depot guy said this one has an auto-feed. That turned out to be very convenient and worth the extra bucks.

I tried all kinds of chemical products and a hand snake to no avail. Got this at Home Depot as a last resort before I called got a plumber. Cleared the clog in 10 minutes. Be careful and feed the snake slowly. If you hit an obstruction, back it out a little and try again. If it gets stuck the snake will coil itself up. Stop and straighten it out and reverse the drill to free it up. Go slow and it works well. Read and follow the instructions! Well worth the money!
