Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 132 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome addition to garage. Installation was straight forward as long as you can locate studs. Due to an attic firewall, studs in my garage were 50" where I wanted to install, but 48" everywhere else. Just added some 2x4's to existing stud. Brackets must be 48" apart!! Other than that, this product is great. Make sure there is a little weight on hoists when you raise it, or cable may not wrap perfectly straight throwing balance off. I learned this the hard way by raising lifts, then putting boats and storage back in garage under, then having to remove everything again to lower hoist enough to straighten cable. No big deal, but more work. I put two of these side by side and they look awesome. January 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Recessed Installation I ordered 4 lift systems for my garage. During the design/engineering phase I had the truss company design the rafter system to accommodate recessing each unit into the rafters. I find that it is a great use of space that would otherwise be wasted. I found that the cable crimp connections on the cable assembly to be low quality (some nuts stripped with the slightest pressure and a couple nuts actually didn't have any threads). I didn't want to risk the failure of the crimps so I purchased some cable crimps from Home Depot and solved the problem. Of the 16 crimps (between the 4 lifts) I only had to replace 2 (not a bad failure rate I suppose) One package was damaged during shipping and the gear drive was lost. I contacted Racor directly and they sent out a replacement part. They were excellent to deal with. September 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! Good price! This was my second Racor 250 lb. Heavy Lift Storage Platform. I installed both -- instructions are very straightforward and easy to follow. I love these storage systems. The 2nd lift went much up faster than the first since I was already familiar w/the device and the installation steps. If you follow the instructions, it walks you through the process somewhat smoothly. I was able to install this by myself--and did it in approximately 2 hours (at a very slow, deliberate pace--no hurry at all. I'm sure I could've finished it faster were I in a hurry.) Definitely recommend a cordless drill (with nut-runner/hex-head bolt driver bits) for pre-drilling mounting bolt holes & then installing mounting bolts. A studfinder is also a must. If you are dealing with a finished ceiling in your garage, recommend you take a look into your garage attic/crawlspace and familiarize yourself with the direction that the rafters/joists run and their separation distance. This will help when you are selecting where you can actually mount the lift. February 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good solid product. Easy to follow instructions and install. Good solid product. Instructions were easy to follow and straight forward. I installed it on 12' garage ceilings so the hardest part was just confirming the location of the studs and drawing the alignment lines. With the unit on the 12' ceiling and the garage door open, you cannot even see it from the street. My only disappointment was that the instruction indicated that a 1/2 inch drill chuck is needed for the drill attachment. All the reading on the web never indicated that restriction. August 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great solution! My garage made the install a challenge but this was not the product's fault. Instructions were clear in word and pictures. The winding mechanism with the drill worked better than I expected. I'm using to hold my truck's camper shell. April 29, 2014
