I used this product without a seal coating and had horrible results! Lots of bubbles. Sanded after a few days and recoat

It's been 2 weeks now and there are spots that are still tacky. Where did I go wrong and how do I fix this. This was a small wood surface about 18"x48" ??? Help!!

You probably didn't mix it as the directions described. 3 minutes of mixing the hardener with the resin and then pour it into another container and mix it for 3 more minutes. Don't mix it like you're beating eggs. Just thoroughly mix it. After it's poured onto the surface you will need to take a heat gun (preferred) or propane torch over it to remove the bubbles. There are lots of videos on youtube showing this. That should leave it with a clear, bubble-free surface that looks like glass.

Do i need to do a sealing coat?

I have covered an old table with pennies and there is little to no wood visible. Would i need to do a sealing coat prior to completing the table with epoxy finish?
Asked by: dan
I covered mine in bottle caps. Yours will be easier because you should have no pockets up air under the pennies like I had with the caps. You don't need a seal coat. Up to you if you want to polish the pennies first but otherwise you can just pour it right on top. In the event that you have some spots that feel "bumpy" from there not being enough resin to cover the pennies, don't sweat it, wait 72 hours and apply a second cover over the whole surface and you will be good to go.

1-qt. Gloss Super Glaze Interior Finish and Preservative (Case of 3) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice! My father-in-law wanted me to refinish his dining room table and wanted a glass-like finish. After some research I found that I needed to use a clear epoxy resin and found it at Home Depot. Although I've never done this before I achieved pretty nice results. Make sure you read and follow the directions to a tee. Since I was mixing 3 separate batches (1 Qt. each that I didn't have to measure) I only needed 2 containers. You mix the resin and hardener together for 3 minutes then pour it into another container and mix it for 3 more minutes. Then I poured it onto my table in a spiral pattern and pushed the spirals together with a plastic drywall putty knife, dragging it at a very low angle so it was a solid coat. Do not use a paintbrush or foam brush. Just use a plastic scraper so you don't introduce foreign particles into it. I let it run over the edge and there I used a foam brush to paint it onto the sides. Not as critical as the top. After that I used my Wagner heat gun (you can use a propane torch) to remove the little bubbles that get caught in the resin. Allow the resin to self level. It will run off the edge and just run your foam brush under the edge to keep the drips from building up. After that it should look pretty nice. Don't touch it again! Let it dry overnight and don't put anything on it for 72 hours I understand.

The directions mention this so just FYI. I think with a little experience it would work fine. At $50 it was an expensive lesson for a one time use. I have areas that are still tacky after over a week and I don't think they will ever set up. I am ordering a piece of Lexan to cover it. Maybe I put it on too thick I don't really know. The parts that came out look great, nice deep shine and dried nice and hard . Just be very careful and go slow as they recommend. I was in a hurry when I did it which was foolish on my part.

I added mini Lego figures to the panels of the door and poured Super Glaze on top to make it a flat desk top. This was my first time using an epoxy and it did take 5 boxes of it to get the top just right but I am very satisfied with the end product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Super" indeed! This is the second time I've used this product, I've pored it over glass block and it turned out professional, and now I have poured it over a stained pallet top and turned it into a gorgeous coffee table. It is super easy to use, any idiot could do it, which is why I chose it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super gloss Product is very good but you have to make sure you mix very well. I thought it was mixed very good but it must not have been good enough. I had two small areas where it did not harden it just remained sticky. The rest of the project came out good.
