Will this work for a composite deck? I have a pretty weathered composite deck that I would like to refinish, and was wondering if this would work for that.
Asked by: Mattie
Happy to help, Mattie! Rust-Oleum Restore 2X Deck Stain with NeverWet is suitable for use on most composite decking. To help ensure proper adhesion and performance, we recommend applying a coat of Rust-Oleum Restore Deck Start Primer! http://www.homedepot.com/s/deck%2520start%2520primer?NCNI-5

I have installed a deck and would like to stain and protect it without waiting 6 months for it to weather.

Can I successfully use this product?
Asked by: Ctjm
Thanks for your question! It is very important that the wood properly dry and age before staining or coating it. It is recommended to allow the wood to age 3-6 months prior to applying the 2X Cape Cod Gray Solid Deck Stain

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Quality - Nice Finish This stain was used on a treated lumber deck that had been installed about 10 years ago and exhibited cracking. Installed over Rustoleum's recommended primer, the finish made the deck look much like a new one. Have not had the stain on the deck long enough to determine its durability over time. A minor drawback to the stain is the can being made of plastic, so you have to be careful in re-sealing the lid to it so as not to damage the can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I liked it, but time will tell. First, let's get the value out the way. If you manage to get 200 square feet from one gallon, that works out to be about $74 a gallon compared to the coverage of regular paint. For me, this was worth the extra expense on my old T111 siding. It saved me from replacing the parts that were in really bad shape. The stain is more like a high quality paint than a thin, watery stain. It filled in a bunch of pits and cracks, although I did two coats to get the coverage that I wanted. The stain/paint spread smoothly. It has a creamy consistency, and was easy to work in to the distressed areas of the siding. It covered the clear primer really good, but, as I stated, I wanted better "fill" properties, and the second coat accomplished that. This is listed as a solid color stain. Understand that this is basically a paint...you cannot see any natural grain through its solid color, although you will preserve most ot the actual texture of the wood. Rustoleum does make semi-transparent stains in the Restore label, but I don't have any experience with those...yet. I'm confident that this will perform well, particularly because I applied it to a vertical surface as opposed to a horizontal deck. I would definitely use this system (primer and 2X stain) again to give new life to old wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fills the dips and spalls Coverage is much less than 250 sf., but it was used on spalled and older concrete which it filled well. I think the light color will be a plus in this Texas heat. There's also an area that has standing water when it rains and hopefully the stain with "neverwet" will prevent the water from getting under the tile grout and lifting same.
