I plan to restore and protect my plastic headlights with this. Would you recommend this or another product?

Asked by: Bryson
Instead of buying a whole headlight restore kit you could instead use Rustoleum Automotive Clear Enamel also carried at Home Depot. SKU# 305960 / Part# 257884 https://goo.gl/m1ZMPI

I wanted to polish and then spray paint some brass that is outside. Would this paint be the right paint to use?

My thoughts were that the enamel paint would keep the brass from tarnishing.
Asked by: Bravery
No. There are specific clear coats for polished metal. And specific coatings you can use. Not using them you run the rush of dulling the finish on polished metal. Or having it instantly tarnish/react with the solvents in clear coats not specifically made with this type application in mind. Some Laquers are designed for this type application. There are other products as well that are proven to outlast and prevent tarnish to metals even better. Do a search you'll find them. Many a used to coat metals on boats and have a proven track record. If you want to chance it... with any clear coat not specially made for coating polished metals, try a test piece first. And be prepared to remove it if necessary. Not all can be removed with out damage to the metal being coated. Polished pieces may have to be re-polished. Antiqued metals may be ruined and have to be re-antiqued. Aluminums may tarnish and turn white. Brass black, Copper green, etc, etc. There's a wipe on product made that works very well. Google search for it. And some lacquers as stated. best of luck with your project.

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clear Spray Paint is suitable for use over previously coated surfaces. For the best results, we recommend applying 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart.

Can this be used as a clear coat on polished brass? The brass will be handled often with bare hands after coating. Hopefully it will dry clear and hard in a short period of time.
Asked by: dfevans
No... there are various products specifically for polished metals. They last a long time. Do a search for them. Some are wipe on products. Many used in the Marine industry for polished SS, Aluminum, Brass etc etc. They're very effective and won't still or tarnish your metal finish. Otherwise you run the risk of instantly tarnishing your metal. Ruining antiqued metal finishes or internally tarnished finishes. Some lacquers can be used, but again test the product on small area to be sure there's no reaction to the metal or finishing product being used.

12 oz. Gloss Crystal Clear Spray Paint is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rust-Oleum paints suck Second project. Second time using Rust-Oleum products. After two weeks of prep, taping off and applying two colors, embossing, filling the embossing with paint. Giving a week for cure before final clear coat. Using all Rust-Oleum "pro grade" products including this one. Their own clear coat enamel reacts with their own enamel. Instant curdling of underlying coats of their "Pro" Enamel using this Crystal Clear Enamel. Who on Earth makes an enamel that reacts with their own fracking enamel? Rust-Oleum that's who. With assembly scheduled for tomorrow and delivery of the project the following day. I'm suppose to now, completely re-strip, mask off and re-spray this project with two colors and a final clear coat, and do the embossing paint and put it all back together. Don't buy Rust-Oleum.
