I used this product after reading all of the reviews... I will agree the product works best with a good white base coat... I used the 2X white primer and the end result was an astonishing pearl finish... the prize is in the preparation... if you take your time and prep the way things should be you will get a beautiful finish too... I will agree to this... it is a top coat finish... but it starts with a good prime coat...

I chose "Pearl Mist" because the top of the can and the color label were a cream color with a metallic look. What comes out is SILVER, nothing like the top of the can or the label. If you want silver, then it is a good choice, but not if you just want a little shimmer to your cream. Also, as other reviewers said, don't count of the built in primer; there is none. I put a coat of primer on before this paint, and I still needed three coats to get full coverage.

I have used this paint before & Love the end result. The only complaint I have seen was that it does not cover easily over bare wood or over previously painted darker items. The easy solution is to 1st apply a light base coat of white spray paint from this same line for use with the Metallic Pearl Mist Spray Paint. I have found this to be true of ANY Metallic paint from any line. This one is by far the Best Ever. Be certain to wipe off the nozzle immediately after spraying to keep the spray opening unclogged, & to shake during application. Several Light coats are better than 1 or 2 heavy coats.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GerD Can be great - BUT
This product did not cover my project or work well as a primer - HOWEVER once I used Rust-Oleum 2x white primer as a base primer it came out excellent. I double primmered to be sure I had a good base coat and then used this Pearl Mist over that, it then came out well. Actually I doubled coated that as well to be sure I had proper coverarage. I would also suggest keeping your work as flat as possible to reduce the chance of runs, it did not run easily but painting pearl mist white over white primer it is hard to see your progress easily. I am happy with the result but not the claim or indication it was a one coat coverage ... that part was riduculous.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EricSTL Only ready made spray pearl out there....
I looked all over for a rattle can pearl white paint. This was the only game in town...if I didn't want to order expensive specialty paints online. Like other reviewers, I tried it as a primer and paint in one at first. But, it would have taken a whole can to cover a very small area with lots of coats. That said, I tried again over the 2x White Primer...BINGO! The pearl on top of the white primer looks terrific and has normal coverage. One coat of pearl over 2 coats of white gave a really nice pearl sheen. So overall, worth the money, just not the miracle all-in-one solution as the can claims.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mike Color was nice, coverage was not very good at all.
The color was great, but over bare pine it took 3-4 coats minimum. If there was even a slightest mark in the pine it would show through the pearl. We made some frames for our wedding, 2 8.5"x11" and one 11"x19" using 1/2" framing material. It took 3 cans to cover this small area well.
This is basically a clear with a ton of pearl in it and a bit of metallic. If you try this I would definitely recommend using a white primer.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MATRiX Beautiful, but definitely NOT primer.
This can produce one of the most beautiful sheens a spraypaint can muster, but it is a bit deceptive. I don't know why they would have put on the can that it's a paint and primer in one. If anything, this is a finishing coat. I use this on projects as a mid coat: over the color base coat and under the clear top coat, just like they do in the automotive industry to get those beautiful pearlescent colors. The finish is really quite stunning and adds a lot of depth. The can is comfortable to hold and the paint splattered very little, and that's always nice.
Overall, it's a great product but by NO MEANS a primer.
