Asked by: Michelle
It does, but it is only for a rough cut. I purchased a better blade to make nicer cuts.

This is literally my first power tool purchase EVER, unless you count a drill. I am definitely a fledgling do-it-herself-er. After paying a contractor what seemed like an enormous amount of money to hang crown molding in a small bathroom, when I saw the process I thought it just couldn't be that hard. This saw, along with the universal miter bench has paid for itself in the few days that I have owned it. I have to admit, I started out terrified of using a power saw and losing a few fingers or a hand. However, I watched several safety videos on You Tube, as well as watching a video on how to un-box this saw and check that everything was square. I am happy to say everything was square out of the box. Several days later, I now have a custom made radiator cover with shelf as well as a living room full of crown and base molding. And it really was not hard... in fact, even in a house that was greater than 100 years old where NOTHING was square, it was easier to cut and install base molding than it is to put a zipper in clothing. I really loved the laser, which made it very easy for me to visualize where a cut would be going before I made it. After I was comfortable with cutting straight cuts and 45 degree miter cuts and 45 degree angle cuts and had a good feel for how this operated, I was able to easily adjust to get angled cuts where the top of the molding had to be 1/4 inch longer than the bottom of the molding just because of that lack of a square surface. It was very very easy to adjust for miter and angle cuts. If there was one thing I didn't care for was that angle cuts can't be made great than 45 degrees. I'd like the option to go to 50. The only other down side.. when making 45 degree angle cuts, the clamp that is included was often in the way. I really prefer to clamp my work than manually hold it in, though I had to do that when I was working with short length of molding anyway. On the other hand, I do love the fact that with this sliding saw, I can cut lengths up to 13 inches. This should be enough for me to build nearly anything I would want in my house, short of kitchen or bathroom cabinetry. I also like the fact that the adjustable depth feature should allow me to make dados for some of the future projects I have planned. I don't have enough large projects planned for me to buy tons of power equipment... and I feel this has enough versatility to do almost anything I would need a power saw for.

I'm not sure if mine is slightly defective or not, but I've never been able to completely square the blade to the fence. The Laser is basically non-existent and I have not used it once because I can't even see it to be frank. If I had to do it over again, I would have spent a couple hundred dollars more for a better quality saw. Also, this saw is NOT compatible with the stand Ryobi sells (Model # A18MS01G). You have to mount the brackets to a piece of plywood or MDF and then mount the saw itself to the piece of wood. It was not clear to me the incompatibility when I purchased. Buyer beware.

I have owned it about 1 month. My wife suggested I get this as my birthday present since we are doing some kitchen remodeling, and she saw me struggling with that stupid miter box and hand saw I've used for years. I'm glad I listened to her, this saw is very handy. After bringing it home, I set it up on the kitchen table and checked the blade and fence with my speed square and combination square. Blade and fence alignment were right on the money. Next day I clamped it to my work bench in the garage and made some test cuts. The blade that comes with it is not bad. When cutting smaller material like molding, go slow and you won't have as much tear-out. The laser works great--the blade cuts just to the right of the laser. Tip: Pull the saw blade down close to the work before you apply power, and the laser will show you exactly where the cut will be. Don't try to use the laser with the saw raised up, because it will be off. Adjusting miter and bevel angles is so easy. The miter adjust has click stops for all the most used angles. The hold down clamp is a brilliant design, and very helpful, but if you try to use it on the right hand side, the motor housing usually bumps into it on the way down. The dust collection is not that great as I've used it quite a bit and there isn't much sawdust in the bag. I'm sure attaching a shop vac would work much better. After watching me use the saw for a couple of days, my wife insisted I needed to buy a stand for it. So I started looking at miter saw stands. I wanted one with wheels so I could fold it up and move it easily. The Ryobi stand has no wheels, no rollers on the extensions, and one reviewer said the mounting holes wouldn't line up. So I ordered the Powertec Deluxe Miter Saw Stand from the HD website, and they delivered it to my door. Check out my review of the Powertec stand on this site. All in all, I would say this Ryobi saw is an excellent value for the money and recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw for the money I have been using this to cut several pieces of very hard Walnut. I have read the well-written instructions to remove the fences in order to be able to make compound 45 degree cuts. The saw is excellent with more than enough power. The blade is easy to put on and take off. The switch is positioned conveniently. Over-all I could not be more pleased! So many features found on far more expensive saws on one so inexpensive and quality-built!

However after using this product for a few days making a bed frame and two bookcases out of reclaimed wood, I was quite impressed with how much time the laser shaved off. The saw handled everything I threw at it, none of the safety devices got caught in the way, it is easy to adjust. I am very impressed.

I would do like others have said and immediately change the blade to a Diablo, I cut with the blade that comes with it and then slapped my Diablo on there and there's a huge difference. But the saw works exactly as it should and as far as I can tell its accurate with the measurements.

Great value. Most other sliding compound miters are much more expensive. I particularly like the laser for lining up the cuts. The only negative about it is that it is hard to see in direct sunlight. Not sure if there is a fix for that. Hasn't been a real problem for me since I am mostly in the shade. I also like that the table is 3.5 inches high. I am using a long table and I put 4x4's at each end to help hold long lumber.
