Does the shaft length adjust

Shaft length does not adjust. I wish it was a few inches longer when using it as a weed cutter.

Customer Reviews

18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer/Edger is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 271.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome edger So, I have owned a 3/4 HP Electric trimmer and also a gas trimmer in the past. This Ryobi is quite a bit smaller and slower than those big boys. It will cut, but takes a bit more time. If you have one hundred feet of very thick weeds 3' tall, this is not your trimmer, get the 40V or a gas unit. However, people have not mentioned this trimmers edging capability. It's actually quite nice with very sharp lines. Because the power is a bit lower than a gas powered or 40V unit, I don't actually fear that a rock will pop up and hit me at 100 mph. In fact one did hit my forehead, but no lasting mark. Don't forget eye protection and you might be pleasantly surprised. On trimmer line coming out to fast. I was worried about this, but it worked fine. You just have to get used to running for 4 min periods of cutting instead of 30 second blasts and the string wear matched my cutting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from suprised I have .33 acres of land. I mow atleast once every 10 days. After years or gas weedeates messing up on me ($100-$250 a pop) I decided to try battery power. I have a few different Ryobi One power tools and one of the weedeaters. For my specific situation this was the almost perfect product for me. PROS: i can weedeat around my driveway, house, shed, around trees and the fenceline and still have enough juice left in the battery to leafblow my 2200 sq ft driveway. I can keep this inside because it dosent use gas so it will probably last alot longer since it wont have moisture all the time. The head swivels so its easy to trim the sidewalk. You dont have to bump the head on the ground for more string. You simply let go of the trigger and it will auto feed more string. CONNS: when auto feeding you have to wait until the head comes to almost a complete stop for more string to come out. If you dont mow offen it will not be powerfull enough to cut through thick grass. Its heavier than expected. The head only has one string coming out. Maybe im old fashion but i think 2 strings coming out would be more efficient. Long story short. If you mow offen and and you dont have a ton to mow this unit is perfect for you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great power, nice features, but WASTES a TON of line! The automatic line feed is very strange- it feeds more line every time you let go of the trigger, regardless of whether it needs more line. So if you use this tool like a rational person and let go of the trigger when not trimming, you end up wasting a ton of line because you lose an inch or so every time you let off the trigger. Very dumb- I miss my old bump-feed trimmer. Aside from this "feature", the power is good and I really like the edging feature, but the runtime stinks because you have to hold the trigger down the whole time you are holding the tool even when not cutting, or else it will feed more line. I'm probably going to return mine and buy a bump feed trimmer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This trimmer feeds line every time you release the trigger no matter WHY you released the trigger... This trimmer feeds line every time you release the trigger no matter WHY you released the trigger, which means that you use a lot of string to do your front yard. You need to hold the trigger down during the job, except when the trimmer line gets far too short to do the job properly. Also the length of the boom cannot be adjusted when you need to trim close to the ground. Instead you need to tilt this until the handle is at mid chest level to cut lower than 1 1/2" above the ground. I am returning this TODAY!! My old Troy Bilt CORDED trimmer worked much better but is worn out after 12+ years. This trimmer is cumbersome and difficult to cut with. I am 5' 11" tall. This will probably work great for someone well over 6 feet tall! I am returning this and will be without a decent trimmer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok at best for a 1/4 acre lawn Really wanted to like it as a simpler, no maintenance trimmer, that uses the Ryobi batteries i already have... Overall...likes: size, weight, common batteries....Average: power, features... Terrible: line fead function (hate hate hate it) , rotating head.. Will try the brushless Ryobi trimmer

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good cordless but could be better So the trimmer is not a bad deal for the price and one battery can usually get me through a complete yard trim but we have a small yard. The flaws I have found in the product are pretty basic. The trimmer head can switch from flat for weed eating to upright for edging. The mechanism for doing this is a release pedal near the trimmer head. The problem is that it is really close to the trimmer and sometimes will not depress enough to release the head for it to swivel. Also, it is an auto feed for the trimmer string and sometimes it just releases way too much string. Other than that it has performed well and I would buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gas equivalent I bought this trimmer with a lot of caution. I have always owned 2 stroke trimmers in the past. I was worried about the power and battery life but I wanted the quietness of an electric trimmer because I bought a new house in a quiet neighborhood and didn't want to be the noisy neighbor. I was very surprised and pleased with the trimmer immediately with the first use. It had plenty of power and torque but yet super quiet. The battery life was great also. It was more than enough to complete all the trimming on over an acre lot. I WILL be purchasing more tools of the same kind from now on because of this experience. I am 5'3" and fairly strong. The handle is placed too high making the heavy end very difficult to hold up for a long period of time. I just used it for the first time today. I moved my hand past the handle to make it more manageable which worked OK. It would have been better if I could have used the handle. The shaft should have been designed so that it was adjustable. That way tall and short people could use it. The trimmer works well for the price. The battery is good. I was able to do all my trimming without having to recharge.
