Questions & Answers

How can I get more sanding paper and the various pads that came with my Ryobi Corner Cat?

I have gone to the local Home Depot (on Genesee in San Diego; a very large store) and they have a very poor selection of sand paper, and none of the cleaning pads or polishing pads with the hook and loop fasteners that this machine uses. Home Depot (who seems like the exclusive agent for Ryobi) needs to carry these consumables for the device to be useful.
Asked by: GeneC
My local 2 Home Depot stock the sandpaper sized to fit your sander. I never have a problem fining the grit I need. Also they have it on their web site and will ship it to your house or shop. I have never not found what I needed for my sander at Home Depot, but other sites also stock them and you can check Ryobi's web site, they are very fine people to deal with. Also sometimes you have to get a larger sheet to get a sharp point for your sander. Cut some other out of the scrap from that sheet.

where can I find a battery and charger for this unit?

Asked by: oley
Thanks for the question Oley. Any 18 volt Ryobi battery will work on any 18 volt product. However, if you have a lithium battery, be sure to have a lithium charger. You may purchase the batteries at the Home Depot store or Homedepot.com.

Customer Reviews

18-Volt ONE+ Corner Cat Finish Sander (Tool-Only) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from parts readily available I'm surprised by the reviews that report difficulty finding sanding sheets or parts like the hook/loop velcro pad the sanding sheets attach to. For repair parts, google a bit and you'll get the service diagrams; parts readily available from parts suppliers (and cheap). It uses the same sanding pads as other brands w/same sized platen. The person who couldn't remove paint must not have seen the 80 grit sheets that are around. That said, I may have just worn mine out after 3 years of a lot of use, which is why I happened to be on this site, looking up the cost of a replacement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small Sander that Packs a Punch I am currently refinishing a coffee table that is badly scratched, gouged, chipped, you name it. I needed to sand the old stain and varnish off the table top. With a sanding block it would have take at least an hour and a couple tylenol. With this great little sander it took me just over a minute with 120-grit paper to get the top to look like fresh wood. With this model there is sawdust leftover but I prefer the cordless with no bag to a corded with a bag. This sander is worth way more than the asking price!.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sander if You Know What to Expect I'll say it - I love this sander. However, I only use it for final finish sanding of projects or on very small rough items (such as seams after gluing). No, you cannot apply a great deal of pressure while using this unit. However, I've never been one to apply much pressure and would let the tool do most of the work. The batteries will begin to fade quicker than you expect, but it is still usable for quite some time before you absolutely need to change. One gripe about the paper - it's expensive. Unless you can find the Black & Decker brand paper for the Mouse series of sanders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sander until gears strip When all of my old tools started failing, I bought all Ryobi because all the tools took the same batteries. (my previous tools each had their own battery) I bought this sander and LOVED it, worked easy, handled great and made the wood super smooth, which gave a great finish for my living room tables. However this tool suddenly made major noise, while sanding my headboard. I opened it, thinking a part got loose. When I opened it, there were alot of metal shavings, and the "teeth" of the gears striped completely off .... What made me mad was this sander only needed a single new gear, but they dont sell them to customers as well as Home Depot. So a perfect tool that needs a little gear, goes to the landfill. This had been a very nice tool, and I needed to finish sanding down my headboard for the new stain, so I bought a replacement, but this time I got the Home Depot Extended warranty !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a great little sander This is a great little sander if you've got the One+ battery system. If you're not invested in the battery system, get the corded version because it has an exhaust bag to catch all that sawdust!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Small Jobs This sander works very well for little clean-up sanding jobs. It is extremel easy to change between different sanding pads, making it very convenient to use progressively smoother ones to finish a project. The Shape of the pads is also a nice touch, allowing you to get right into tight corners. It does, however, bog down a little as the battery loses power. That is, it starts off great, but tends to die a little, about halfway through the battery's life. This tends to limit it to smaller projects, rather than bulk sanding (for which one should use a belt sander). All in all, if you don't already own Ryobi cordless tools, investing in the batteries and charger for just this piece is not a great idea. However, if, like me, you already owned other pieces, it is well worth the small investment to get a nice, portable sander for odd jobs here and there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great light duty detail sander. I am a Ryobi 18v fan and do a lot of my woodworking on my patio. I like this sander because I can work on projects where cords are inconvenient. I use this to smooth rough lathe objects as they turn. It makes double speed sanding possible on the outside of bowls and long spindles. I also us it when painting and working on trim when I run into a rough spot without having to plug in or run a cord. I am impressed by the new lithium ion batteries for Ryobi 18v. I have yet to run one out using this sander. They are awesome compared to the old ni-cad batteries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, faily good deal for the price After reading other reviews for this, I agree with most others. It is a little expencive for the tool, and yes you need to buy a battery & charger if you don't have them already. It works well for it's size and the fact is uses a battery, it's kinda noisy so hearing protectors are a good thing to have. Decent over all, easy to use and handy that you don't need a long cord to run it. I averaged about 30 minutes for a run time per battery using Nicad's.
