I bought this sander to replace my failing Craftsman orbital. At first glance, they were both similar in shape and size. They both come from the same manufacturer. Since Ryobi offers a better warranty, its easier to find Home Depot stores, and the price was better, I went with the Ryobi 5in. orbital sander with the hook and loop system. It is low vibration, and extremely quiet in comparison. Owning a vibe sander and a belt sander as well, this is my jack of all trades sander and I use it for wood, metal, paint, walls, etc. Don't expect the dust catch to work miracles, but expect a reliable sander that's comfortable to use.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RealDHop Great Sander! Great Price!
My wife and I set out to remodel our kitchen and we wanted to do a focal wall of ship lap. So we needed a sander to make the wood smooth as butter. Glad we picked up this awesome sander at a great price. We would definitely recommend purchasing this sander to anyone looking for an orbital sander.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JoeB Ryobi orbit corded sander did not meet expectations.
The sander worked well on the first day out of the box but the on/off button seemed too easy to push. I noticed the dust bag came off after several minutes of use but thought maybe I bumped it. On the 2nd day the on/off button started malfunctioning, not turning off unless I held it down for several seconds and a couple of times I had to unplug it stop. The dust collector continued to fall off after several minutes of use, I found the cause to be the pressure of the air being blown into the bag by the sander was pushing the collector off. If Ryobi would make a twist and lock collector, this would solve the problem.
I returned it to the store and paid $20 more for a DeWalt sander, has the dust collector locked in place, lighter weight and easier to control.
I have cordless Ryobi drill/driver combo kit and cordless skill saw, both work great. Ryobi did not meet my expectations on this sander.

Got the job done at a good price for the item purchased. Sander is good for small jobs like the one we had.

Less than 1 hour of use and this sander is deemed "defective". As many of the other 1 star reviews state, the sander head can lose control and is unusable. It is almost like a bearing has gone out - you can't even sand because it is too hard to hold and control.
I've contacted Home Depot who won't refund/exchange past the 90 day period. I have yet to hear from Ryobi customer service.
As owner of many Ryobi products, I am disappointed in this one and losing faith in the quality of products, as well as their customer service.

Works great, affordable. Switch seems more durable than the Harbor Freight model which this replaced. So far, me likey.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by rabbitron bad bearing
I thought i would use this to clean up some wide trim pieces around my windows and doors. Didn't use it much for the first few months, once the weather warmed up i put it to work in the evenings. The sander didn't last long. the bearing failed after maybe 10 hours of total use, seized up rather shortly.
it started with a rumbling sound, then a screeching sound before the thing seized up.
